COLORADO =oR THE RE>EVELOPM.ENT OF DUNCA.K PARK .
WHEREAS , the City of Englewood, Colorado has inain1ained and operated Duncan Park as a
community park for over thini• years lhrou~h a lease agreement wilh Englewood Schools and is
considered a valuable iU:d i,-1 eplaccable part of the Englewood park systein ; and
WHEREAS , Duncan Park is lhe only Park lo caled in the sou1hcas 1 quadrant of the City of
Englewood; ru,d
WHEREAS, tl1e Euglcwood City Cowicil pa ssage of Ordin,nce No . 42, Series of 2007
authorized a Contract for Deed for 1he purchase of Duncan Park located at 4848 South
PenDsy!n nia by the City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Englewood received a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado 10 fund
lile developmen t of a sit,-spccific park plan for DWlCan Park cede ve!opment; and
vlHEREAS, the City of Englewood wishes :o apply fo r a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado
for $350,000 10 fund th ,. ac.h1n l developme:il of Duncan Park with City providing matching funds
of $140 ,0:lO fr om Arapahoe Coun1y Sharcback Funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF

appli cations frnm municip al ities, countie s, and park and recreation special districts lo assist lo cal
gove.:nnents in acquiring, expnndi ng , en!iancing :i.,d improving parics, OJtdoor recreation nnd
envi mnmental c,lu toaliun facilities.
111 <: GOCO LPOR grant process is very competitive. GOCO re ceives requests fo r approximately
three times the amount of funding available in each grant cycle . Here are a few tips that will

of the City of Englewcod 's gran: applicati,n for the development of Duncan Park.
W ith GOCO 's gra nt support, the Ci~y was able to purchase the Dun can Park property from Englew ood
Schoo l!a , who were d i~posinis o f ~u rplu> ~ruµ~rty tc offset budget red1.:ctions . We. we re able t o save the
site as parkland ,1nd now we ha ve ra zed the small ~cho cl bu il ding and ~ompleted design and
constr uct ion doc Jmenb for the park 1 ·develoome nt
In May r,f 2006, ihe Parks and Re creat ion Corr.m ission adopted a Park s ano Recreat ion Master Plan
which ir,entitied ,he s:>uth~ast ·es1dent1a l area of the City as presently being underserved; with a
relatively low parklanj lev~I of service .

privileges at designated parks within the City of l:.nglewood Duncan Park is one of four
"eighborhood parks in the City with off-leash privileges and the only park in southea st
Englewood .
EU works with, aids and assists the City of Englewood by raising funds and providing volunteer
suppon to improve and better maintain the off-leash parks in Englewood in order to provide dogs
a place to exercise without leash restramt in a clean, healthy and safe environment. W• are
writing in support of the developmert grant, that Englewcod is applying for and we wis., to
support their development effon of Duncan Park through a $500 donation .
EU cultivates community spi:it and nc ,ghborhood relations through varioL1S outreach efforts . We
be lie.ve that Duncan Park is one oi these valuable assets and hope that you w:11 view the project
