RECOMMENDED ACTION Staff recomm ends lhat Council approve a resolution authorizing staff 10 apply tu Arapahoe County for th e City of Englewood 's portion of federal fiscal year 201 3 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. BACKGROUND, ANALYSIS, AND ALTERNATIVES IDENTIFIED The U. S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Develop ment {HUD) CDBG Entitlement Program provides grants to units of local government and urban counties to mee t housing and co mmunitt dev elopment needs. Th e objective of the program is to enhance urban communities by providing: • decent, safo, affordable housing; improved infrdstru ctJre; • public facilities and servic es; • eco no111i L uµportumties. The Federal Pr ogra m objectives ar c achieved thr o ush projects developen by local governments thal primarily benefil low and moderate income families as well as other fe deral objectives . The request for iunds ma y also include activities that meet urgent develnpment needs in communities such as damage from Oooding, tornadoes, fire , etc. Local governments determine which activities best serve the ob1ectives of the prog ram . Funds are appropriated annually hi' the Congress for the CDBG program and are allocated by statuto,y formula to ea ch entitlement area . Arapahoe County is approved as 3n urban county entitlem ent area . The t.Dlil; gra11t funds are c.mently distributed to participating cities ,1,ilhin Arapahoe County . Each participating c i1 y receives a set-asid e portion o f th e total CDBG allo c:c ti on .
