Program is an importan t area of safety ed ucation provided to th e o. al co mm miry which
en han ces the safety of children .

The fire departme nt is c.ow mitted to reducing the injurie s, disabilitic r and deaths caused by the
improper in sralJ atio o oi c!::il d passe nger safety scats . Occasional ly, the. city's victim ndvocatc
coo rdinator wiU req uest th e department's technicians to provide ed ucatio n to so meone who bas
been invo lved in an acci dent w~erc the child passenger safety scat was improperly in st.al.led , or
was absent due 10 financial ~d!d.ship . In the past, the department would provide these families
with a car seat and educate th e pare nt (s) on proper ins taU ati on. Du e to budget shortfall s, the
Englewood Fire Dcpanmcnl nu longer bas th e res ources to supply car sea L, to famili es th at
ca nnot afford one. With the monie s from thi s grant propo sal , lhc departme nt wiU again be ab le
to assi st families in need in thi s wa y, ns well as prov ide th e oth er su pplies requ ired 10 sustain the
car passe nger safe ty sca t program.
