AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZlNG AN INTER GOVERNMENT AL AGREEMENT
REGARDING THE APPLICATION FOR AND THE ACCEPTA.'ICE Ol' A COLORADO
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION GRANT AWARDED TO THE CITY OF
ENGLEWOOD FOR THE CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY SEAT PROGRAM AND FOR
VARIOUS PROJECTS RELATED TO TRAFFIC SAFETY EDUCATION AND
ENFORCEMENT DURJNG CALENDAR YEARS 2011 AND 2012.
WHEREAS . the Colorado Department of Transportation (COOT) bas solicited city police
departments throughout the State of Colorado, including the City of J::nglewood, to participate in
traffic safety education and enforcement programs; and
WHEREAS, COOT often gives little notice when they announce their safety campaigns; and
WHERE/\ S, the pass•~• of this ordinance will authoriu the City of Englewood to accept
fundiu& from the Colorado Depanment of Transportation (CDOT) for various projects related to
truflic safety education and enforcement for all projects initiated in 2011 and 2012, which
include the following :
High Visibility Impaired Drivin& Enforcement Campaign -$4,400
Motorcycle Awarcuess Training -$747.19
Click it or Ticket -$3,000
Child Passenger Safety -$S00;
NOW, lllEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF TP.i CITY OF
ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO , AS FOLLOWS :
~-The City Council of the City of Englewood, Colorado hereby authorizes the
acceptance of the Colorado Department of Transportation Grant awarded to the City of
Englewood for funding of various projects related to traffic safety education and enforcement
during calendar years 2011 and 2012.
~-The City Manager is hereby authorized to sign said CDOT grants awarded to the
City of Englewood for and on behalf of the City of Englewood, Colorado for the calendar years
2011 and 2012.
Introduced, read in full, and passed on first reading on the 3"' day of October, 2011.

City Council adopted Ordinance No. 19 in May, 2011, authorizing the acceptance of traffic safety
and enforcement grant fu11ding from the Colorado Department olTransportation for the High
Visibility Impaired Oriving Enforcement Campaign, Motorcycle Aw,ren ess Trai11ing, anJ the Click it
or Ticket progran ..
RECOMMENDED ACTION
The Police Department is recommending that City Council adopt a Bill for an Ordinance authorizing
the Englewood Police Department to apply for and accept funding from the Colorado Department
a/Transportation (CDOT) for various projects related to traffic safety education and enforcement
during calendar years 2011 and 2012.
BACKGROUND, ANALYSIS, AND ALTERNATIVES IDENTIFIED
The Colorado Department ofTransportation has solicited police departme,ts throughout the State
of Colorado, including the Englewood Police Department, lo participate ir traffic safety education
and enforcement programs . COOT often gives very litde notice when lhey announce their safety
campaigns; therefore this ,s a comprehensive request for all projects initiated in 2011 and 2012.
The below programs were offered in 2011 and will likely b, nfered again in 2012 .
1. High Visibility Impaired Driving ~nforcement Campaign -$4400
2. Motrncycle Awareness Training -$747.19
3. Click it or Ticket -$3000
4 . Child Passenger Safety -$500
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Overtime costs are reimbursed 10 the Englewood Police Department by CDOT.
