T he term of this CA wi ll be from the date of final signa ture(s) will be school years 20 11 -2015 fo r th e inv olved District and City sites (Exhibit/\), unl ess partia ll y or wh olly term inated earlier pursuant to the co nd iti ons outlin ed in Sectio n Ill. Co lorado Statute C .R.S. §22· 32-1 18 allows for off-h our use of ~chool Di strict open -ai r playgrounds . I. DE SC RIPT ION OF PROJEC T "Fial 14 ers" is a m ovement-based initiative that chall enges ind iv idual:, to vi rtu ally cl imb Co lorado Flat Hers by utilizing re sources and open spaces in thei r own ne ighborhood By walking . running . playing. and engaging in sport s and ot he r activ ities, participa nt s wi ll accumu late steps which wi ll then be us ed to track how many Colorado Flat 14ers they have "climbed ." Des ignation of loca l pa rks. paths , wa lking tra ils , and school spaces (in clu ding school perimeters. tracks , gyms, etc .) are a key co mponent of t his in itiative. Activity tracking w il l be a ch ieved via a free , s~ecia l website that is being developed by America o n th e Move , which will offer a c hild -fr iend ly logg ed-i n are a . It is not necessary to ha ve access to the Int ernet to eng ag e in this program , howeve r. By s imply wa lking a de sign ated space a certai n number of ti mes (e .g. six tim es arou nd Centen n ia l Park), part icipants w ill understand that th ey have ga th ered enough steps to cli mb a certain Co lora do 14e rs. Several loca l an d nationa l organi zations have come together to develop, im pl ement, and promote t he Flat 14 e rs concept inc lu ding CBS4 , The Child ren 's Hospita l, America on th e Move, Colora do Park s and Recrea ti on A ss ociation , and Tri-County Healt h Department. Utilizi ng funds from th e Communities Putting Preve nt,on to Work Initiat ive grant (CPPVV), T ri-Co un ty Hea lth Department is imp len 1enl ing an d promoting Flat 14 ers at fourteen schoo l districts an d their associa ted Pa rks ,:m d Recrea tion d epa rtments wi thin th e Tr i-County area (Adams , Arapahoe . and Dougl~s Counties.) An init ia l focu s of the program is 011 middle school studen ts , due to a 19 .6% in crease in obesity of ch il dren aged 5 .·1 t from 1980 to 2008 1 . When it ;~ not po ssib le to remove graffiti , or if a sign is bad ly damaged and negative ly affects th e appearance of the rou te C' schoo l property , it will !Je removed and 1he Dis tri ct is not obligated to replace it. Mutual Responsibilities : A wo rk group will meet at I ,1st annua lly to monitor the Flat 14ers Initiative and this group wi ll hold confe re,,Lo:, ~a ll s or mee ting s, as app rop 1i a te, to review the perfo rm ance of the Initiative . 2. The City and Dis tri ct v,,ill determ ine the number of sig ns re quired, along with the appropriate lan gu age fr,r e:,c h 5ign, to b e posted along the crea ted City and Di stri ct rou tes . The City and Dis tric t wi ll review and eva lu ate the Fla t 14 ers Ini tia tiv e p rior to th e beginning of th e school year to revi ew successes and plans for expansion (o f th e Flat 14ers Initiative). 4 .
