SERIES OF 2009 A RESOLUT ION APP ROVING A SUPPLEMENT AL Al'PROP~ ~ TION TO THE 2009 BUDGET FOR TH E HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTH PL,\TTE ALLEY . WHEREAS, th e City of Englewood is required by Cit y Chart er lo ensLre th at expenditures do not exceed legnll y ndop ted appropriations; an d WHEREAS, the 2009 Budget was subrniued and approved by th e Englewood ~ity Co un ci l oo October 24 , 2008; and WHEREAS, th e City Council of the City of Englewood authorized an appropriation of SI 00 ,000 for the Colorado Humane Society Guarantee to pay the outstanding ob ligations of the Colorado Humane Society by the passage of Resolution No. 42, Series of 2009; and WHEREAS , this supp lemental appropriation to the 2009 Budget is needed for a $ I 00,000 contribution to the Humane Society of South Platte Valley; and WHEREAS, thi s expenditure could not be foreseen and therefore was not included in th e 2009 Bud get. NOW , THEREFORE, B.:: IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCD.. OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO, AS FOLLOWS : ~tion 1. RECOMMENDED ACTION Staff recommends Council approve th e attached Suppl emental Resolution for a $100,000 for capital contributio n to th e Humane Society of So uth Platt e Va ll ey. BACKGROUND, ANALYSIS, AND ALTERNATIVES IDENTIFIED In D ecember o f 2008, th e D is trict Court removed the management of the Colo rado Humane Society and placed th e operati o ns of th e she lter th at serve s th e cities of Er.glewood and Littleton under the con trol of a custodian. Th e Court and the custo dian have worked with th e two ci ti es to provide for co ntinued operati o ns o f th e shelter with the intenti on of transferring o peral ions o f th e shelter to permanent managem ent. H owever, du e to financial and legal constraints, th e transfer of CHS to new m anage ment has n ot b een accompli shed. Mr. Fisher has es ta blished a n ew non-profit orga niza ti on, th e H umane Society of So uth Platte Vall ey for purposes of operatin g an an imal shelter and re lated services for i he benefit of th e ci ties of Englewood an d Li ttl eton and !heir respective communities.
