HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009 Resolution No. 085,. RESOLlITION NO. J5' • SERIES OF 2009 -- A RESOLUTION APPROVING A SUPPLEMENTAL APP~:O!'RIATION TO THE 2009 BUDGET FOR PIRATES COVE POOL REPAIRS. WHEREAS , the City of Englewood is required b) City Charter to ensure that expendi~ares do not exceed legally adopted appropriations; and WHEREAS, the 2009 Budget was submitted and approved by the Englewood City Council on October 24, 2008; and WHEREAS, in June 2009 it was noted that Pirates Cove leisure pool bad water losses; and WHEREAS, after completing fr.tther investigation and testing it was concluded that there were cracks in the return lines; and WHEREAS, rcpair1 were made in order to keep the pool open for the season but it was also discovered that the leak bad compromised the relainiog wall to the north; and WHEREAS, the Englewood City Council approves a supplcmenlal _appropriation for Pirates Cove Pool repairs by the passage of this Resolution; NOW, TIIBREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCil.. OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO, AS FOLLOWS: ~-Toe Budget for the City of Englewood, Colorado, is hereby Binendcd for the year 2009, as follows: · CQNSERV ATION TRUST FUND SOURCE OF FUNDS : Fund Balance USE OF FUNDS: Pirates Cove Pool Rcpain; $150,000 $1 50,000 ~ Toe City Manager and the Director of Finance and Administrative Services are hereby authorized to make the above changes to the 2009 Budget for the City of Englewood. Co unc il also discussed the repairs required at Pirates Cove on November 23 , 2009. At that time Council directed staff to prepare a resolution fo r a supplemental appropriation for funds to repair th e p ool. RECOMMENOFD ALIION Staff recommends Council approve the attached resolution authorizing a Supplemental Appropriation for $150,000 to make necessary repairs at Pirates Cove . BACKGROUND, ANALYSIS, ANO ALTERNATIVES IDENTIFIED Englewood voters passed a $12.8 ge neral obligation bond issue for re creation improvements. A portion of th e bond proceeds we re used to construct Pirates Cove Aquatics Center. Pirates Cove opened May 28, 2005. Early in June 2009, City staff noticed water losses in the lei sure pool. After completing further investigation an d testing it was concl uded that there were cracks in th e retu rn lin es. Repairs were made to keep the p ool open for th e season but it was also discovered that th e leak had compro mised the retaining wa ll to the north. Repairs were es timated at $250,000. Th e Conservation Trust Fund ea rmarked $100,000 for pool repairs so an additional $150,000 is needed to complete th e project. Th e City Attorney's Office has filed a claim to recover th e City's cos t of repair.
