AN ORPINANCE REPEALING AND REENACTING CHAPTER 10, TITLE III, '69
ENGLEWOOD MUN ICIPAL CODE ENTITLED "ELECTRICAL CODE" AND ADOPTING
BY REFERENCE THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, 1978 EDITION, TO
PROVIDE MIN IMUM STANDARDS TO PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH, WELFARE AND
SAFETY; REP EALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH1 AND PRO-
VIDING PENAL TIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF.
NOW, THE REFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ENGLE WOOD, COLORADO, as follows:
Section 1. That Chapter 10, Title III, of the '69 E.M.C. is
he r eby repealed and reenacted to read as follows:
3-10-1:
CHAPTER 10
ELECTRICAL CODE
SCOPE OF ELECTRICAL CODE
The p rovis i ons of this Chapter, known as the Electrical ·
Co de, s hall apply to the installation and maintenance of
all electrical wiring, materials, fittings, devices,
appliance s , f ixtures and apparatus within or on public
and private buildings, structures and premises.
3-10-2: NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE,
1978 EDITION, ADOPTED
The r e is hereby adopted by reference thereto, the National
Electr i cal Code, 1978 Edition, together with the appendices
contained the rein, published by the National Fire Protection
Asso ciation, 470 Atlantic Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts
02210 , with the same force and effect as if the same were
more f ully set forth herein, subject to the exceptions,
modifications and amendments thereto as hereinafter set
forth.
3-10-3 : SPECIFIC MODIFICATIONS TO ADOPTED CODE
(a) The following modi f ications are hereby made in the
provisions o f the Nationa l Electrical Code, 1978 Edition,
hereinabove adopted:

(1) N.E.C., 110-5(2): Delete the last sentence
in this section. Add the following section:
The installation of aluminum or copper-clad
aluminum conductors smaller in size than
number eiqht (8), American wire gauqe, is
prohibited.
(2) N.E.C., ARTICLE 336 --NONMETALLIC-SHEATHED CABLE
336-3. USES PERMITTED OR NOT PERMITTED PROVIDED,
HOWEVER, THAT ALL PUBLIC COMMERCIAL AND ' INDUSTRIAL
BUILDINGS, WIRING INSTALLATION SHALL BE AND CON-
SIST OF RIGID METAL CONDUIT, ELECTRICAL METALLIC ·
TUBING, SURFACE METAL RACEWAY, UNDER FLOOR RACEWAY,
WIREWAYS, AND BUSWAYS.
3-10-4: INSPECTIONS; HIDDEN WORK
When any part of the wiring installation is to be hidden
from view by the permanent placement of parts of the building,
the person installing the wirinq shall notify the Electrical
Inspector, and such parts of the wirinq installation s~all
not be concealed until the same have been inspected and approved.
On large installations where the concealment of parts of the
wiring proceeds continuously, the person installing the wiring
shal~ give the Inspection Division due notice, and inspections
shall be made periodically durinq the progress of the work.
The inspector shall have the power to remove, or require the
removal of, any electrical wiring or equipment.
3-10-5: UNLAWFUL ACTS
It shall be unlawful for any person to make any connection
from a source of electrical energy or to supply electric ser-
vice to any electric wirinq, devices, appliances or equipment
which has been disconnected or ordered to be discontinued
until approval of the Electrical Inspector has been obtained,
authorizing the reconnection and use of such wirinq devices,
appliances or equipment.
Section 2. Notice of public hearing shall be published twice,
once at least fifteen (15) days preceding date of hearing and
once at least eight (8) days preceding date of hearing, which
notice shall state the subject matter of the Code, time and place
of hearinq and that copies of the foregoing Code are on file with
the Clerk and open to public inspection, and the name and address
of the agency by which said Code has been promulgated.

Section 3. Not less than three (3) copies of each Code described
he r ein shall be certified to be true copies of said Code by the
Mayor and the Clerk and filed in the office of the Clerk at least
fifteen (15) days prior to publ i c hearinq and subject to public
inspection at a ll times while said Code is in full force and
effect. The Cl e rk shall mainta i n at all times reasonable copies
of the Code a vailable for purchase by the public at moderate price.
Section 4. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corpora-
tion to erect , construct, enlarqe, alter, repair, move, improve,
remove, convert or demolish, equip, use, occupy or maintain any
buildinq or s tructure in the City, or cause the same to be done,
contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this Code.
Any pe r s on, firm, or corporation violatinq any of the pro-
visions of t his Code, upon convi ction, shall be punished by a
fine of not more than Three Hundred Dollars ($300) or by imprison-
ment for not mo re than ninety (90) days, or by both such fine and
imprisonment.
Section s. That all ordinances and parts of ordinances of the
city of Bnqlewood in conflict or inconsistent herewith are hereby
repealed •
