HomeMy WebLinkAbout1979 Ordinance No. 017BY AUTHORITY ORDINANCE NO. 17 SERIES OF 1979 COUNCIL BILL NO. 17 INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN HARPER AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 4, TITLE I, ARTICLE III, OF THE CITY CODE BY REDISTRICTING COUNCIL DISTRICTS NUMBERS l AND 2 WITHIN THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO. WHEREAS, Article III, Section 20, of the Englewood Home Rule Charter provides as follows: 20: DISTRICTS "Council shall establish four Council Districts before May l, 1959. Such districts shall be contiguous and compact and have approximately the same number of registered voters, as determined by the number registered to vote at the preceding general municipal election. The variances in number of registered voters shall not be greater than fifteen percent between the district with the highest number of registered voters and the district with the lowest number of registered voters. Every four years thereafter, divisions, changes, and consolidations shall be made by the Council to carry out the intent of this Article. Hereafter, such redistricting shall be completed at least six months before the general municipal election at which it is to become effective." AND WHEREAS, the Election Commission of the City of Englewood has found that a variance in the number of registered voters in excess of the permissible figure of fifteen percent does in fact exist between Districts 1 and 2 as heretofore established by City Council. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO, as follows: Section 1. That Sections 31 and 32, Chapter 4, Title I, Article III, of the '69 E.M.C. are hereby amended to read as follows: J" . • • • ARTICLE III--COUNCIL DISTRICTS 1-4-31: COUNCIL DISTRICT NO. l Council District No. l shall include and be com- prised of all that northwesterly portion of the city bounded on the east by the center line of South Logan Street from East Yale Avenue, the northerly city limit line, to the center line of East Floyd Avenue; thence EASTERLY FROM THE CENTER LINE OF EAST FLOYD AVENUE TO THE CENTER LINE OF SOUTH CLARKSON STREET; THENCE SOUTHERLY ALONG THE CENTER LINE OF SOUTH CLARKSON STREET TO THE CENTER LINE OF EAST HAMPDEN AVENUE; THENCE WESTERLY FROM THE CENTER LINE OF SOUTH CLARKSON STREET AND EAST HAMPDEN AVENUE TO THE CENTER LINE OF SOUTH BROADWAY; THENCE SOUTHERLY FROM THE CENTER LINE OF SOUTH BROADWAY AT EAST HAMPDEN AVENUE TO THE CENTER LINE OF OXFORD AVENUE; THENCE WESTERLY FROM THE CENTER LINE OF OXFORD AVENUE AT SOUTH BROADWAY TO THE WESTERLY CITY . LIMIT LINE; THENCE NORTH ALONG SAID CITY LIMIT LINE AND FOLLOWING SAID CITY LIMIT LINE TO THE INTERSECTION OF EAST YALE AVENUE AND SOUTH LOGAN STREET, THE POINT OF BEGINNING. 1-4-32: COUNCIL DISTRICT NO. 2 Council District No. 2 shall include and be com- prised of all that northeasterly portion of the city bounded on the west by the center line of South Logan Street and East Yale Avenue being the northerly city limit line; thence southerly to the center line of· East Floyd Avenue and Sou~h Logan Street; thence EASTERLY ALONG THE CENTER LINE OF EAST FLOYD AVENUE TO THE CENTER LINE OF SOUTH CLARKSON STREET; THENCE SOUTHERLY ALONG THE CENTER LINE OF SOUTH CLARKSON STREET TO THE INTERSECTION OF SOUTH CLARKSON STREET AND U.S. HIGHWAY 285 (EAST JEFFERSON AVENUE); THENCE EASTERLY ALONG THE CITY LIMIT LINE TO SOUTH LAFAYETTE STREET FOLLOWING THE CITY LIMIT LINE TO THE INTERSEC- TION OF SOUTH LOGAN STREET AND EAST YALE AVENUE, THE POINT OF BEGINNING. -2- .•· • • • Int roduced, read in full and passed on first reading on the 19th day of March, 1979.
