HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975 Ordinance No. 019• • • INTRODUCED AS A BILL BY COUNCILMAN MANN BY AUTHORITY ORDINANCE NO. /9 , SERIES OF 1975 A ORDIN ANC E REPEALIN G AND REENACTING CHAPTER 10, TITLE III, 1969 E.M.C., ENTITLED 'ELECTRICAL CODE', AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE "NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE", 1975 EDITION, TO PROVIDE MINIMUM STANDARDS TO PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH, WELFARE AND SAFETY; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDIN G PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF. NOW, THEREFOR E , BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCil OF THE CITY OF EN GLEWOOD, COLORADO, as follows: Section 1. That Chapter 10, Title III, of the 1969 E.M.C. is hereby repealed and reenacted to read as follows: CHAPTER 10 ELECTRICAL CODE 3-10-1 SCOPE OF ELECTRICAL CODE The pro~isions of this Chapter, known as the Electrical Code shall apply to the installation and maintenance of all electrical wiring, materials, fittings, devices, appliances, fixtures and aparatus, within or on public and private buildings, structures and premises. 3-10-2 NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, 1975 EDITION, ADOPTED There is hereby adopted by reference thereto, the "National Electrical Code", 1975 Edition, to- gether with the appendendices contained therein, published by the National Fire Protection Associa tion, 470 Atlantic Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts 022 10, with the same force and effec1 as if the same were more fully set forth herein, subject to the exceptions, modifications, and amendments thereto as hereinafter set forth . -1 - • • • 3-10-3 SPECIFI C MODI FICATIONS TO ADOPTED CODE The foll owing mo difications are hereby made in th e provisions of the National Electrical Co de, 1975 Edition, hereinabove adopted: 1. Pa e 101 o f "'69 E.M.C." All electric w1r1ng h rcafter insta lled, including additions, ex tension s or changes in existing wiring, used for the transmission of electric energy for light, h ea t or power in or on all buildings located within the City, shall be installed by the use of the following mat- rials, to -wit : (a ) No n -metallic sheathed cable of approved type. (b) Rigid metal conduit. (c) Electri cal metallic tubing. (d) Surfac e metal raceway. (e) Under floJr raceway. ( f) Wireways. (g) Busways. It is expressly provided, however, that in all public, commercial, industrial and mul- tiple family dwelling buildings, and in buildings constructed in fire zones numbers 1 and 2, wiring installation shall use only methods (b) to (g) inclusive; and it is further expressly provided that all outside wiring on all building exteriors shall be done through the use of methods (b), (c) and (d) only . -2- • • 2. The installation of aluminum or copper clad aluminu m conductors, smaller in size than number two (2), American wire gauge, is pro- hibited. 4. Aluminum service entrance cable size number eight (8), American wire gauge, or larger, may be installed in single appliance branch circuits e xceeding one hundred fifty (150) volts. 3-10-4 INSPECTIONS; HIDDEN WORK When any part of the wiring installation is to be hidden from view by the permanent placement of pa Yts of the building, the · per- son installing the wiring shall notify the Electrical Inspector, and such parts of the wiring installation shall not be concealed until the same have been inspected and approved. 0 ·1 large installations where the concealment of parts of the wiring pro- ceeds continuously, the person installing the wiring shall give the Inspection Division due notice, and inspections shall be made periodically during the progress of the work. The inspector shall have the power to remove, or require the removal of, any electrical wiring or equipment. 3-10-5 UNLAWFUL ACTS It shall be unlawful for any person to make any connection from a source of electrical energy or to supply electric service to any electric wiring, devices, appliances or equipment which has been disconnected or ordered to be discontinued until approval of the Electrical Inspector has been obtained, authorizing the reconnection and use of such wiring devices, appliances or equipment. -3- • • Sec t i on 2. Copies of the said National Electrical Code 19 7 3 Edit io n, are a v a ilable for inspection at the Office of t h e Dir e c tor of Fi nance, ex officio City Clerk-Treasurer, duri n g all regular busi ness hours. Sec t i on 3. Any violation of the Electrical Code, 1975 Edition, from and after the e f f ective date thereof, shall be punis h ab le by a fi n e not exceeding Three Hundred ($300.00) Dolla r s , or i mprisonment for a term not exceeding ninety (90) days, or both such fine and imprisonment. Sectio n 4 . That all ordinances, ~nd parts of ordinances in conflic t, or inconsist e nt herewith, are hereby expressly repea led. I ntroduced, read in full and passed on first readi ng on the 1 7 th day of March, 1975 . Published as a Bill for an Ordinance on the 20th da y of March, 1975.
