AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE V OF THE 1969 E.M.C., ENTITLED
"CAREER SERVICE (EMPLOYEES AND OFFICERS)", BY ADDING A NEW
CHAPTER 11 TO SAID TITLE, ESTABLISHING THE ENGLEWOOD POLICE
CADET TRAINING PROGRAM ADOPTING STANDARDS FOR EMPLOYMENT,
AGE, RESIDENCY, MINIMUM EDUCAT I ONAL REQUIREMENTS, FUTURE
EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS, EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS AND WAGES,
AND PROVIDING FOR A REVIEW OF SAID PROGRAM ANNUALLY BY
THE CITY MANAGER WITH RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE CITY COUNCIL.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO, as follows:
Section 1.
That Title V, of the 1 9 69 E.M.C., is hereby
ame nded by adding a new Chapter 11 to said Title, said
Cha pter to read as follows:
CHAPTER 11
ENGLEWOOD POLICE
CADET TRAINING PROGRAM
5-11-1 POLICE CADET TRAINING PROGRAM ESTABLISHED
There is hereby established an Englewood Police
Cade t Training Program consisting of part-time employees
to be assigned non -hazardous duties within the Police
Depa rtment o f the City of Englewood.
5-11-2 AGE
Applicants for said Cadet Program must have
reached their eighteenth (18th) birthday, but not
reached their twentieth (20th) birthday.
5-11-3 RESIDENCY
At the time of selection said Cadet Trainee must
reside within the Denver Metropolitan Area .

5-11-4 EDUCATION
Cadets must have: (a) completed a regular High
School Course; or (b) achieved a GED Test Score; or (c)
achieved a Grade Level Equivalency Test (GLET) of a
passing score.
5-11-5 EXTENSION OF CADET SERVICE -ELIGIBILITY LIST
Cadets who shall have taken and achieved a
passing grade in any examination for Patrolman Fourth
Class, and whose name has been placed in the top three
(3) of said eligibility list, as established by the
Career Service Board, may have his employment extended
beyond the three (3) year training program as a Cadet
for an additional six (6) month period, or so long as
the eligibility list shall remain in effect; provided,
however, that any further extensions granted to said
Cadets shall first be approved by the City Manager.
5-11-6 EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS DURING TRAINING
(a) After selection each Cadet shall enroll
in the Arapahoe Community College and maintain a minimum
of nine (9) quarter hours, three (3) quarters per year,
being the fall, winter and spring quarters.
(b) Each such Cadet must obtain an Associate
Degree in Police Science within three (3) years.
(c) Cadets shall maintain at least a 2.0 overall
grade average during college enrollment, and failure to
do so will result in immediate dismissal from the Cadet
Program.
5-11-7 CADET EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
Employment b n e fits available to Cadets during
their training program shall be as follows:
(a) Health, life, dental and long-term dis-
ability insurance
(b) Sick leave, vacation leave and holidays
to be prorated, based on the number of hours
worked .

(c) Social Security
(d) Workmen's Compensation
(e) Injury leave
No pension benefits shall be granted to Cadet
Trainees.
5-11-8 WAGES
Wages for Cadets shall be set at three (3)
levels as follows:
(a) First Year $428
(b) Second Year $467
(c) Third Year $508
Effective January 1, 1975, wages for Cadet Trainees
shall be as follows:
(a) First Year
(b) Second Year
(c) Third Year

5 -11-9 ANNUAL REVIEW -RECOMMENDATION
The City Manager, together with the Chief of
Police, and others as the City Manager may designate,
shall review the provisions of this Chapter relating
to Cadet Trainees' hours of employment, wages, employ-
ment benefits and shall make his recommendations to the
City Council for appropriate amendments hereto.
