peddle r or for which he is an authorized sel.t.ing agent, to persons other than manufacturers,
wholesalers , jobbers or retailF>r s in s 1c h comn od ities. All persons engaged in suah business
must first obtain from the city Clerk an officia l receipt s howing tha t such pe r s on has paid
the Ctt:r of En r;lewood the license tax hereinafter s pecified f?r t he pe riod indicated, and is,
therefore, ,authorized to pe ddle said goods or servic es. An y pers on or persons subject to a
busines s or occupational tax unde r any other s ect ion of this Ordinance shall be exempt from
pa ing the p e d ler fee here in s~ec ified, but sh~ll be required to obtain the above mentioned
rece ipt for the a drJinis Lrat ive c osL of one dJllar ($1) in order to be le r ally authorized to
enguged tn r Pq idential door to l oor pedd ling. Th e tax for itinerant pe idler's under this
section shall b e a J foll ows:
Peddlers of .oo ks, p~riodicals( other ten newspapers) household wares, brushes,
cosme t ics, tte nsils, produce, b1ilding re pair remoldeling and all ped d lers af any goods
or s e rvices not specificall : covered herein shall be s ubject to a tax of $25.00 for each
person so enga ged for three months. Itinerant p hotogra phers shall be subje ct t o a tax of
50.00 each for on e m .. :mth .
Group H: IT TI ·r RESIDENTIA L ROUTE m;1,,IV1!.'RI1';$
An y a nd all delivery wehicles which sell and delive r foods, eJojs or services at retail prices
d irec t to ~he res idence s in the City of Engle~ood, and which are representing businesses or
firms l ocated outside of the Cit y limi ts, shall be subject to a tax of $10.00 for each delivery
vehicle so engaged .
(Examples of such an op era~ion are dairies, dry-clea ners, and laundries, and home bateries)

income-producingbusinesses , trades , accupat i ona, and professions located a nd oe rforrne -;,
withint hve Cit:· of F.n gle71ood shall be subject t o a bu s iness and occupational tax under this
Ordinance . Th ~r efo re , in any case of cases , wherein a particular enterprise is not specifically
named herein , it shall be the dutv of the City ~!erk-Treasurer to classify and tax such enter-
prise, subject to Lhe a pp r o val of the City Manager.
Section 6 . SdA.1.ATE TAX 1''uR &\CH SF~A f'l.TE IlJSINESS UN IT UNDE.~ SINGLE ·OWNER: In cases wherea
'&isiness IS operated as s e parate units in diffe rent loca tions, u nder the same owner, even
throu eh s imiliar in na ture , eachsuch separate unit sh ~ll be s ub ject to a separate and full tax
under this Or dinance .

the sameor adj-.cent bu siness units, and where one is clear ly an adjunt to the other, the
licensetax may ' be compu-tfed on two or more bu sinesses as being one business. In such
cases where the se p ~r a te units fall into groups of diffe r J ing license tax r ates, the higher
ax shall µr evail for the entir e oµeration.
Section 8. PERIOD OF LI CEN SE: All licenses shall cover . period of one vear beginning
J anuar-; I"()f e a ch year and ending December 31 of tha t vear,anle s s otherwise Hereiri ·provided.
Section 9. MET HOD OF CJLLECTION : The City Clerk-Treasureer sh .:.i ll be charged with the
adiiiinistr ationand collection of t a xesauthoriz od un de r this Or d inance. It shall be his duty
to notify every known business , t r ade , occupation,and p rofAs~i J nal enterprise in operation
ithin -v he Cit of En p.lewood prior t o Dece mLe r l of each year, with the e .,ception of t.heyear
19.56, du r ing wh ich year such notif i cation shall be accomplished as exµeditiously as possible.
Said no Lification shall include full instructions as to procedures for remittance of the tax
due , methods of tax computation a nd pen a l ties provided. Lack of receipt of such notification
in any ye ar sh ~ll '1 ot r e lieve a nr person encaging in a rosiness as defined hereunder from the
liability of paJ'ing such tax and compl r ing with all o ther re.uirements of this Ordinance.
ection 10. Al';L!CATION FJR LIC ENSEt 1\p plications for licenses hereunder shall be made on
uniform forms 9rovided without cha rge by the Cit y ClerkYTreasurer. Each a pplicant for a
license whe re t he amount of the fee therefor is based up ~n the average num ber of employees,
sha ll include i n his ap plication a sworn statement or the true number of employees for the
previous calender year computed in accordance with Section No. 3 above using as a basis
there fore his 9a rroll b ook s and rec ords. All i~formati o n so a b ta ined shall be confidential
and shall not be made public or used by the City, except for the pt r ~o se of establishing a
correct ba s is for fixing and colle ctingthe license here in provided for. City officers or ,
employees shall be authorized ac cess to said figures only on a "need t o know" ba :>is, and any
City officer or employee disclosinG confidential informati on unde r th ~s s e ction shall be sub-
ject to immediate d ismissal.
S.ctianIIi. nrs?IA f OF LICENSES: Upon receipt of license tax paym en L due hereunder, the
CifiUf!'9&iUrer shall iasue a certificate separate from the tax receipt, which shQll
indica te that said licensehas 0een paid for the s pecified tax year. Each license certificate
issued he r eunde r shall at all times while in force be d isplayed in a conspicuous place in the
place of usines s or orofe s sional office authorized to be con lucted, and shall be removed
after ex oirati on thereof .
Section 12 . ~I E.~ LUS IN ESS ESa A new b •wines s shall compute the Lax up m the estimated
numbe r of e mplo y ees for l..he c ~lrr~nt year in whic h the business is to be started. If the
business is begun subsequent to anu ~ry 1 of any year, the tax required sha ll be 9rora ted

an y pe rson who discontinues any business during Lhe )·ear. All prorated taxes provided for
in this paragraph shall b e due and paya ble upon the be e inning of business and shall become
delinquent thereafter.
Section 13. TRANSFER OF LIC ENS E-PROCEDURE: No license granted or is s ued under any
