WHEREAS, the City of Dlglewoocl has used the Uniform Building Code as
a rrodel construction code since 1970; and
WHEREAS, this Code is updated periodically to keep pace with changing
construction technology; and
WHEREAS, the City Di vision of Building and Safety staff has
thoroughly reviewed the 1988 Edition of the Uniform Building Code and
Building COde Standards and recamends adoption of this Code subject to
exceptions, rrodifications and airenanents as hereinafter set forth;
Na-I , THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY CXXJNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ENGLENXlD, COI.aU\00, THAT:
section 1. Chapter 2A of Title 8, D,glewood l '..micipal Code 1985, is
hereby repealed and a new Chapter 2A is enacted adopting by reference the
Uniform Building COde 1988 Edition, including l\ppendix Oiapter 12 -
Division II; Chapter 23 -Division I, Chapters 26, 32, 49, 51, 55, and the
Uniform Building Code Standards, 1988 Edition, published by the
International Conference of Building Officials, 5360 lmkrnan Mill Road,
• \\bittier, California , 90601 subject to the exceptions, rrodifications and
anenanents set forth. Chapter 2A of Title 8, D,glewoocl Municipal Code 1985
shall now read as follows:

STAFF ANALYSIS
The 1988 edition of the Uniform Build i ng Code & Uniform Build i ng Code Standards has
been thoroughly reviewed by the Division of Building and Safety staff and adoption
of the code and standards, with certain amendments, 1s recomended.

The City of Englewood has used the Uniform Building Code as a model construction
code since 1970. The Uniform Building Code 1s updated by the International
Conference of Building Officials every three years 1n order to keep pace with
changing construction technology and life safety concerns . In preparation for the
adoption of the 1988 edition of the Uniform Building Code the Division of Building
and Safety has published information 1n the Englewoo1 Citizen regarding the proposed
code adoption; has notified all general contractors icensed 1n Englewood of the
proposed changes 1n the new code edition and of the City's intent to pursue adoption
of this edition; has 111et with the administrative staff of Swedish Medical Center to
discuss the revisions 1n the new code edition which affect construction and
remodeling at the hospital; and has met with the Englewood Chamber of Commerce to
explain the nature of the changes 1n the new code edition.

It shall be unlawful for any person to erect, construct, enlarge, alter,
repair, move, Improve, remove, convert or demo11sh, r-·,ulp, ·use, occupy, or
maintain 'lilly building or structure tn the City, or cause the same to be done,
contrary to or In violation or any or the provl slor.J or this Code . Any person
violating any or the provisions or this Code, upon conviction, shall be
punished by a fine of not more ti1an.ftve hundred dollars ($500.00) or by
Imprisonment ror not more than ninety (90) days, or by both such fine and
Imprisonment.
