BACKGROUND, ANALYSIS, AND ALTERNATIVES IDENTIFIED Th e City of Englewood first became involved with th e Arapahoe Community College Arapahoe/Douglas Career and Tech ni ca l School (ACTS) during 1985 when th e principal of Colorado's Fin es t Alternative High Sc hool conta cted City staff for assistan ce in expand 'ng th, building trades program. The ACTS program serves A rapah o~ Community Coll ege an d five sc h ool districts, in cluding Englewood. Every stu dent is exposed to all of th e building trad es (i .e . framing. drywall, masonry, electri ca l, plumbing. HVAC, etc .). They lea rn to apprec iate how each trade affects the oth er. Students are of all ages (men and women alike) and come from all backgrounds. C.cy staff will ac t in the rol e of th e developer providin g co nstru c tion funds from th e Housing Rehabi lita tion Fund (F und 46). Under a sepa rate funding IGA w ith ACTS, the City will retain a construction coordinator to ass ist staff with the da y-to-day buildi ng ac tiviti es with th e ACTS Ins truc tor and stu dents. The house w ill be sold after completi on of th e project and the procee ds retu rn ed to Fund 46. ommunity Development staff has se lected the design of th e house that th e stu dents will build during th e sch ool year. Attention was giv en to se lec ting a des ign that su pports a good qua li ty leve l of materi als, appropria te rl~s ign for th e neighborh ood and co mmunity, and fina ll y, a product th at is marke table within th e nc 1t hborhood.
