WHEREAS, Cit y Slaff reco mm end ed red ucing the fee ret nined by th e ve ndo r on
sa le s lax re turn s from one and six-te nth s perce nt (1.6%) of the amoun t to be co ll ected
by th e Cit y to one-h alf pe rcen t (0 .5%); and
WHEREAS , the pro posa l rega rdin g vendo r fees was discussed wit h Ci ty Co uncil at
the preli minary review of the 2002 Bud ge t on Sep temb er 9, 2002; and
WHERE AS. City Staffmel wi th members of Alliance fo r Co mm erce in Englewood
(ACE) on October 10. 2002 , and membe rs of ACE vo ted :o reco mm end Cit y's
pro posal wi th a revie w in the future .

COUNCIL GOAL AND PREVIOU S COUNCIL ACTION
Thi s proposal was firs t disc usse d with Co un ci l at th e prelim inary review of th e 2002 Budget on September
9, 2002. City staff met wi th members of All ia nce for Comm erce in Engl ewood (ACE ) on O cto ber 1 0, 2002.
Members of ACE voted to approve th e proposa l wi th a rev iew i n th e futu re.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Sl aff re ~o mmends Coun ci l app rove th e proposed bill fo r o rdin ances amending 4-4-4-7C of the C ode.

Th e Code all ows a ve ndor fil in g a tim ely sa les tax ret urn to the City of Eng lewood to retai n o ne and si x-
tenths of a perce nt (1.6 %) of th e taxes requ ired to be coll ected. City staif recommends reducing this foe to
one-ha lf of a pe rce nt (.5%). This ac ti on will preserve City funds that can be us ed to prov id e serv ices to the
co mmun ity.

The estimated savi ngs for 2003 is approximately $260,000.
