AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE TAX LEVY IN MILLS UPON EACH DOLLAR OF
THE ASSESSED VALUATION OF ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE CITY
OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO.
WHEREAS, it is the duty of the City Council of the City of Englewood, Colorado,
under the Englewood Home Rule Charter and Col.orado Revised Statutee. to make the
annual levy for City purposes; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has duly considered the estimated valuation of all the
taxable property within the City and the needs of the City and of each of said levies
and hae determined that the levies as hereinafte.r set forth, are proper and wiae ; and
WHEREAS, the following levies a.re permitted under Article X, Section 20 of the
Colorado Constitution without a vote by the citizens:
NOW. THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ENGLEWOOD , COLORADO, AS FOLLOWS:
~-That the.re be and hereby is levied for the year of 2001, due and payable
as required by etatute in the year 2002. a tax of 5 .880 milla on the dollar for the
General Fund of the City of Englewood , Colorado, and 1.020 mill& on the dollar for the
Community Center Bond Fund Debt S.-rvice Fund o( the City of Englewood, Colorado.
Tha t the levy herein above set forth shall In levied upon each dolla.r of the asaeased
valuation of all taxable property within the corporate limits of the City of Englewood,
Colorado, and the said levy shall be certified by law .
Introduced , read in full, and passed on first reading on the 15th day of October,
2001.

City Counci l an d staff held a 2002 Budget and Goals se tt ing meeting on April 28, 2001 . A preliminary review of
the b udger was o ne on September 6. 2001 . A publi c hearing regarding the Proposed 2000 Budget was held
o n September 1 i', 2001. The operating budgets and Multiple Year Capital Plan for all City departments a nd
funds was reviewed at a budget retreat held on September 29 , 2001 , and follow-up review was done at a study
ses sion on October 1, 2001 .
RE C OMMEN DED ACTION
Staff recommends Council approve this b ill for an ordinance establishing the 2001 mill levy to be collected in
2002.
BA CKGROUND, ANALYS IS , AN O ALTER N ATIVES IDENTIFIED
The City of Englewood assesses property tax for the general operations of the government and for the
Community Center Debt Service Fund. TABOR restricts the City from raising l he mill levy without a vole of the
citizens . This year's General Fund mill levy is unchanged from 2000 { 5.880 mills). The 200 I levy is cenified to
Arapahoe County by December I 5, 2001 for collection in 2002 .
FI N AN C IAL IMPACT
Based on t he assesserl valuation for the City of Englewood as certified by th e Arapahoe Cou nty Assessor, th e net
assessed value of al' ,erties in Eng le, ood for 200 I Is $419,653,1 5 0 compared to S3 72,13 0,950 for 2000.
The 2001 mill for Ger,~.dl Fund operations is 5.880 mills and 1.02 mills for the Commu nity Center Debt Service
Fund. The total mill levy is 6.90 for 2001 collected in 2002. The total amount budgeted for the General Fund is
S2.700,000 (net of uncollectibles. abatements, etc.). The amount budgeted for the Community Center Debt
Service Fund is 5430,000 (net of uncollectibles, abatements, etc.).
