RECOMMENDED ACTION Approval of the proposed Joint Funding Agreement between the City of Englewood and the U.S. Geolcgical Survey for October 1, 1996 through September 30 , 1997. BACKGROUND, ANALYSIS, AND ALTERNATIVES IDENTIFIED A stream flow gage, operated and maintained by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), ha~ been in operation since 1990 at Union Avenue and the South Pia~-.~ Rive r. The information from th e gage is critical during low flow periods to determine if water must be re leased from Chatfield Reservoir. The data provided by the gaging station is required by the State Water Commissioner in order to ma ke releases from Chatfi eld Reservoir dur ing low flow situations in which insufficient water 1s avail able to meet pumping demands at Union Avenue Pump Station . The Utili tie s Depa rtment shares in the annual cos t of opf'rat ing and maintaining the station on a 50% basis , w ith the rema ining 50% contributed by the USGS . FINANCIAL IMPACT The cost of fund ing this agreemrmt will be approxim ately $20 ,000 to $25 ,000 over the nex: five years . Th i s portion is for 1996-1997 and is $4 ,350.00 .
