COUNCIL GOAL AND PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
City Council discussed the proposed Competitive Cable Franch ise Ordinance at the June 18, 2007
Study Session . On July 2, 200 7, Council approved Council Bill No. 39, setting forth a review and
evaluation proc1ss for Competitive Cable Franchise Applications. The ordinance i! sche duled for
second reading on July 16, 2007 .
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Staff seeks Council support for the attached Resolut ion setting fees associated with Competitive
Cable Franchise Applications .
BACKGROUND, ANALYSIS, AND ALTERNATIVES IDENTIFIED
Council Bill No. 39 sets in place a. process for reviewing and evaluating Competitive Cable
Franchise Applicati ons . The ordir .ance states that the City will set an application fee sufficient to
cover the reasonable cost of processing applications under this ordinance .
We are recommending setting the City of Englewood's application fee at $1,500 to cover the costs
associated with reviewing t~e application . It is estimated that it will ta ke a significant amoun t of staff
time to review the application and determine whether the information was submitted as required.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The application fees collected will directly offset staff time spent on the application review.
