Horsccar Committee n:guding I sbcltcr for the boncar. He llalCd that Cindc,oUa City is the current
location of the hotm:ar and cxpn:aed coocem for Us safety from Vllldlls. He n:ad I lct1cr addressed 10
City Council from the Save the Honcar Committee thanking City Mlnlgcr Clarlt for placing in the 1995
proposed budget S7 5,000 .00 to complete the Cbcrrclyo Honccar cnclmurc. The letter encouraged
Council to budget the entire IIDOUDt for completion of thc lllUClure.
James Taylor, 3709 South Sherman Stn:ct. expressed cona:m for loss of the horsecar through the closi ng
of Cindctclla City . He fcan thc honcar might be attached through legal means if the shopping center
closes. He cncoungcd Council to budget funds in addition to those IIJ<3dy raised by the co mmittee to
enable plac,:mcnt of the bor= in front of City Hall where it will be safe and vi si ble.
Council Member Hathaway clarified that the S75 ,000 .00 mentioned in the letter docs not include the
horsccar committee 's $40,000 .00.
In an unn:laled commco~ Mr. Taylor stated that thc Englewood Dq,ot "ill be moved tonight between
10 :00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. He invited interested parties to obscn-c.
Kristen Anderson, 288& West Long Circle, Littleton, Colondo, 1 lint padc tcacbcr at Clayton
Elementa,y Scbool and cbairpcnon of the Sm, thc Bookmobile Commiltcc, asked City Council to include
the bookmobile in thc 1995 budget. She cited 10me of the many fund raising activities the Save the
Bookmobile Committee is cumntly working on and planning. Ms. Andmoo stated that the committee
has contacted 350 corpo,ations for donations, Conoco has donaUd po coupoos for the operation of the
boolcmobile, Conoco Kids Now coupon books arc being 10ld by the ICltool children, and many otbcr
activities a,c forthcoming.
Am:maric Leonard, 4945 South Lipan Dri,-c, a member of the Public Library Board, rccognh:cs the need
fo r tho community to provide the funding for the bookmobile in 1995 and asked Council to look into ,mys
for the City to fund the bookmobile in 1996 and beyond. She asked Council to n:cogoizc the committment
the community has made to the bookmobile and put it back into UJIC in 1995 with the money from the
community effort. Ms . Leonard requested that Council declare October. 1994 as Bookmobile Month and
Octobers thereafter as Library Services Month .
Sandy Ostema. 2843 South Grant Strcc~ sou ght support for reinstatement of the bookmobile . She stressed
tl.at older people al10 use the bookmobile and feels it helps keep young people off the streets and out of
trouble .
Sabrina Leonard, 4945 Soult Lipan Dri ve, a third grade student at Clayton Elementary School , stated that
the bookrnooilc has more books than the school library and feels the students need iL She asked Council
:, help get the bookmobile back on the road.
Robert Leonard, 4945 South Lipan Dri\'c, cxprcssc.1 concern regarding a comment at another gathering by
a r.ity Council member that "the bookmobile is dead and that no mon< , ,.;u be budgeted for the
bookmobile ever again. He stated Iha~ whco the boo.unobilc was parked I year ago, he was led to belicvc
that it was onl y a temporary measure . He feels the bookmobile ,.;u bclp the ecology because fc,m cars
will be driving to the library.

bookmobile .

hold a public bearing each year prior lo dclcrmio.ing the disposition of Stale Highway Ur.n Trust Fund
moneys. The City ol Englewood Rech-es its share ol the funds on a moothly basis and the allocation is
based on the number of vehicle r,:gistrations and miles ol Sln:CU n:lativc lo other municipalities. Mr.
Gryglcwicz n:lated that these m'toucs an: from vehicle assessments, passenger miles on carrier vehicl es
and gasoline c..cisc taxes. The C of Englewood budgeted S750,000.00 in n:vcnuc for 1994 and has
collceled $531,000 .00, or 71 % of the amount budgeted for 1994 as of the end of August . The City is
budgeting $775,000.00 for 1995. lo 1991 the City collected $668,464 .00, in 1992 tltc City collccled
