ORDINANCE NO . 5°' SERIES OF 1997/1998 BY AUTHORITY COUNCIL BILL NO . 109 INTRODUCED BY COUNCIL MEMBER WAGGONER AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF COPS MORE 96 GRANT FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES. WHEREAS, because of previous police oriented grants awarded to the City from the Department of Justice over the last two years the Englewood Safety Services Department was offered the opportunity to apply for a COPS MORE 96 Grant; and WHEREAS, the U .S. Department of Justice -Office Of Community Oriented Policing S ervices has awarded the Englewood Safety Services Department the COPS MORE 96 Grant in the amount of $18 ,375; NOW , THEREFORE , BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO, AS FOLLOWS : Section 1. The City Council of the City of Englewood , Colorado hereby authorizes the acceptance of the COPS MORE 96 Grant, a copy of which is marked as "Exhibit A" and attached hereto. S ection 2 . The City Manager and City Clerk are hereby authorized to sign and attest said Extension Agreement on behalf of the City of Englewood. Council has approved several similar grants awarded to the Police Div is ion for the appropriation of personnel and equipment. RECOMMENDED ACTION Approval of a bill for an ordinance accepting a COPS MORE 96 grant in the amount of $18,375.00 from the U.S. Dept. of Just ice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. BACKGROUND, ANALYSIS, AND ALTERNATIVES IDENTIFIED Because of previous police oriented grants awarded to the City from the Dept. of Justice over the last two years , we were offered the opportun ity to apply for a COPS MORE 96 grant in the amount of $18 ,375. We have determined that this grant will be used for the purchase of seven (7) portable laptop computers to be used by our Impact and Community Relations officers for community policing operations. FINANCIAL IMPACT Est imated project cost is approximately $24,500 . Grant provides up to $18,375 of federal money, with the rema inder ($6, 125) matched by City funds. Award is granted for one year.
