Mayo r Otis ~~~~a if there we re any oth e r visitors at this ime .
Glenna Bennett , 3296 South Downing; Debra Mel l a nex , 3319 South
Downing ; and Nerita Welch , 3311 South Dow ning , appeared before Council
and asked for resolution to a traffic problem at the i nt ersection of
Floyd a nd South Do · ag . They expressed concern because of th e serious
traffic accidents ~o far this year. Also , because school was soon to
start , th y we re concerned about children walking through the inter-
section . They sugg ested putting up a stop sign and a sign in the mi ddle
of the bl~ck warni ng there was a stop sign ahead .
Cou nci Member Neal sta ted he has asked Assistant City Ma na ger
Va rgas to initiate a traffic study at this particular int e rsecti on .
Mayor Otis stated a traffic count was to beg in the ne,t d ay and
police patrol o:f1cers ~ere instruc ted to start patroling th at area rn0re
th an normal .
Council Member Bradshaw s uggested that p3 r ents cont act ~he ele-
m ntary school prin cipal to see if a letter could be sent home instruc-
ting the children where to walk .
Council thanked the ladies for co~i n g to the meeting and br ing-
in hi s matt e r to their attention .
