HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-02-22 (Special) Meeting MinutesI I I I SPECIAL MEETING: COUNCIL CHAMBERS CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO FEBRUARY 22, 1965 The City Council of the City of Englewood, County of Arapahoe, State of Colorado, met in special session Monday, February 22, 1965, at 8:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers, City Hall. The following Notice of Call was read by the City Clerk: February 19, 1965 NOTICE OF CALL BY THE MAYOR FOR SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1965 -8:00 P.M. to hold public hearing on the formation of Paving District No. 15. Notice and call is hereby given of a Special Session of the City Council to be held on Monday, February 22, 1965, at 8:00 P.M., for the express purpose of holding a public hearing in connection with the formation of Paving District No. 15. /s/ STANLEY H. DIAL CITY MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RECEIPT OF NOTICE The following persons, all Councilmen of the City of Englewood, Colorado, do hereby acknowledge receipt of notice of the above special session. /s/ /s/ /s/ /s/ /s/ /s/ /s/ Tymer Rice Geo. H. Allen H. R. Braun wm. B. Hanson Samuel L. Love Donald G. Fullerton John c. Kreiling The Mayor asked for roll call. Upon the call of the roll, the following persons were present: Councilmen: Allen, Braun, Hanson, Rice, Love. Also Present: City Manager Dial, Administrative Assistant Malone, Assistant City Attorney Myrick, City Engineer Waggoner, City Clerk Chase. Absent: councilmen Fullerton, Kreiling. The Mayor declared a quorum present. City Manager Dial presented general information on the Improvement District. Councilman Fullerton entered at 8:10 P.M. Councilman Kreiling entered at 8:15 P.M. COUNCILMAN RICE MOVED, COUNCILMAN FULLERTON SECONDED, THAT THE PUBLIC HEARING BE OPENED. Upon the call of the roll, the vote resulted as follows: Ayes: Councilmen Allen, Braun, Fullerton, Hanson, Kreiling, Rice, Love. Nays: None. Absent: None. The Mayor declared the motion carrried. Mr. Dennis Kelly, 2393 West Warren, appeared to protest the improvement of West Warren Avenue. There were present from that area three persons favoring the improve- ment and five persons opposed to the improvement. Mr. James Chandler, owns business at 2900-2930 South Tejon and 2929 South Shoshone, appeared in favor of the improvement on South Tejon, south side of West Dartmouth to south side of Yale Avenue. So, there was one present in favor of the improvement and none against. The matter of improvements in the Industrial Area was brought before Council. There were twenty-eight people present in favor of the improvement and seventeen people present not in favor of the improvement. Mr. Harold Sampson, President of Wilkerson Corporation, was present to present information in favor of the improvement. 1 . . . 2 Minutes of February 22, 1965 Mr. Jim Norling of Vertical Company appeared in favor of the improvement. Mr. Jack Eachon, President, Englewood Chamber of Commerce, appeared in favor of the improvement. Mr. Charles RPyne, Attorney, appeared as attorney for Metal Fabricators, pro- testing the improvement, bringing up the drainage problems in the area. Mr. Robert Kemp, Civil Engineer, gave his report on the drainage problems in the area. Mr. Joyce Williams, 4845 South Cherokee, owner of property at 3775 South Kalamath appeared to protest the improvement. Mr. Marvin Wall, 1401 West Oxford, appeared to protest the improvement. Mr. Charles Watkins, 3901 South Lipan, and Mr. Jess Kurtland, 3900 South Mariposa, appeared to protest the improvements. Mr. Ray Hoffman, 506& South Huron, presented a petition in regard to location of sidewalks in the 4900 and 5000 blocks South Huron Street. Mr. Orville Hartness, 5050 South Huron, Mr. U. S. Trask and Mr. James Hancock appeared to state their cases on location of the sidewalks. Mr. Dick White, 4985 South Huron, Mr. Nick Charvelle, 5057 South Huron, Mr. John Brookee and Mrs. June Hively, 5205 South Huron,appeared in regard to sidewalk location. Mr. and Mrs. George Otto, 4202 South Grant, appeared to ask the question as to whether the trees in their area would be removed? Mrs. Edna Mackey, 4295 South Grant appeared as to how much paving would be done and brought up the problem of drainage in the area. Mr. H. E. Furgeson, 4381 South Grant, appeared asking to see the petitions for improvements in his area. Mr. I. L. Golden, 4335 South Grant, appeared as to the trees and as to base specifications. Mr. S. E. Heater, 4335 South Grant appeared suggesting a larger drain before paving is started. A letter of protest from Mrs. Swigert, 309 West Kenyon, was read. tOUNCILMAN FULLERTON MOVED, COUNCILMAN RICE SECONDED, THAT THE PUBLIC HEARING BE CLOSED. Upon the call of the roll, the vote resulted as follows: Ayes: Councilmen Allen, Braun, Fullerton, Hanson, Kreiling, Rice, Love. Nays: None. Absent: None. The Mayor declared the motion carried. COUNCILMAN BRAUN MOVED, COUNCILMAN HANSON SECONDED, THAT THE PROPOSAL ON PAVING DISTRICT NO. 15 BE TAKEN UNDER ADVISEMENT AND MEETING ADJOURNED TO 8:00 P.M., MONDAY, MARCH 1, 1965. Upon the call of the roll, the vote resulted as follows: Ayes: Councilmen Allen, Braun, Fullerton, Hanson, Kreiling, Rice, Love. Nays: None. Absent: None.
