After the reading by the Clerk of certain protests against the proposed dance hall
at th~ Alexander propert7 from the lirst Baptist Church signed b7 180, a like
petition from the Qiglewood ComrmWJity Church with 73 signers, one from the Disbrow w.c.T.U. signed by the officers and letters from the pastors ot the Pirat Baptist
Churcb, ~e Bnglewood Community Chur•h and the lJaytlower Church, also a ce 1ntea•toD
from a.W.Bershey stating that he had issued George C. Dock a license to run the
Rende1vous Dance ?alace at 1080 Broadway, Denver, Alderman Pearce, chairman of the
Lioenee Cowaitt.ee reported that after careful consideration ot the moral effect
upon our 7oung people and the communit7 at large ot a resort of thie kind, and the
senti~ent expressed by the different churches, we feel that Bnglewood, a Cit7 of
homes has been free of any such demoraling influancee as attend such reaorta,snd it
is our desire ao long as we have the power, to keep our Cit7 olean, therefore we

Colorado, an order 11&de b7 the Cowity Court of Arapahoe County, Colorado, which
orcler was served upoa Counoilman C.M.Hall, by the Sheriff of Arapahoe Count7,
Color64o,.oD th• 30th d~ of August, A.D. 1~28, wherein the Cit7 Counoil are
ordered to submit the question of dissolution of the Cit7 of Englewood and 1,e
aDDexation to the Cif¥' and Count1 of Denver, at a special election to be held ill
aaid Cit7 of Bnglewood on 'l'ue&d81' the 27th dq of lloveraber, A.n·. 1928, and in
that behalf to inact an ordinance or ordinances and do suoh other things that Ja&7
be neceeaa17, and
WBIRBAS, the City Attorney of the City of &nglewood has adYised the Cit7 Counoil
that in hie opinion said order ia not a valid and binding Qrder upon the C1t7
Council tor the reason that the Coun•1 Court of £rapahoe Count7, Colorado, was
witaout jurisdiction to make said order, and
~. it is the opinion of this Council that it is for the best interest
of the City ot &nglewood that said order should be oonteeted and its validit7
determined ihrough the Courts having Jurisdiction thereof, and
WHEREAS. the Cit1 Attorne1 has recommended that oounoil be emplo7ed to assist
him in defense of said ca~e, and
WHBa.&.\.S, Wm.J.Grodzki, an attorne1 at law, has oonsented to aaaiat the .Cit7
·Attorney in said matter.
