and it auat be aaid that thi• aid ha• undoubtedly contributed to the -intenance of
a heal thy occ r ere ial area.
Very recently, •• a part of the "Thumb• Down on Violator•"" campaign, pedeatrian
jay-walking in the 3300 and 3400 Block• ha• been halted. We realise thia i• in
the intere•t of the aafety of th••• peraona and in the public intereat, but all
too often the officer-cuatoaer contact waa one of friction, reaulting in ill-will
toward ahopping in Downtown Bngl.wood. If only an additional 20 cuatomer faaili••
can be allienated in thi• -nner each WHk, the reaulta can eaaily be anticipated
within a f.w week•• time.
•• "°uld auggeat, if you pl••••· that during heavy •hopping hour• when auxil-
lary police are now being uaed, that more tolerance and court•af:. ·be ahown to th•
excited and irritated abopper who att-pta to jay-walk.
We would next auggeat that if thi• area ia to continue in competition with
the nei4)hborbood center•, that we make croaaing thi• atreet convenient and -f•
by croaa-walk inatallationa, near block mid-pointa. Thi• involve•, we are aure, expen•• and traffic planning probl .. a, but delay for additional WHk• or month•
can be diaaatroua under the preaent circumatancea.•
