Ma ·,a er o f O en S ace COU NCIL GOAL AND PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION Council Bill number 36 was introduced by Council Member Yurchick as an ordinance amending ntle 7, Chapter I A, of the Engl ewood Municipal Code 1000, pertaining to dogs and cats. RECOMME OED ACTIO Staff recommends that Council adopt a resolution fo r an off~eash pilot program for dogs for up to one year in length, subject to re view and amendment at any gi en time during that year. BACKGRO UND , ANALYS IS, AND ALTERNATIVE S IDENTIFIED n,e Englewood Code Enforcemen t Advis ory Committee has reviewed the current dog-at~arga provisions of the Englewood Municipal Code and has determined U1at control by voice ~o mmand has proven inadequate to maintain control of dogs away from home. The comm ittee recommended that all dogs be o n a leash when away from the dog owner's property. nie Englewood Code Enforcement Advis ory Commi ttee and the Engl ewood Parks and Recreation Commission held a joi nt meeting and determined that specific parks in Englewood would be designated as off~eash areas for dogs in a pilot program that will run for a period of o ne year. The off-leash parks will be:, orthwest Greenbel~ Centennial. Duncan, Bates-Logan and Jason Parks. All other parks will requi re dogs to be o n a leash at all times. FINANCIAL IMPACT There is a minimal impact for revising existing park rules signs and for producing new sign s for the off-leas h parks. Staff estimates the,e costs to be ,ess than SI 000.
