Cherry Hills Village use d o ur spec ifica tions and th ey ad ve rt is ed for bids, onl y two compani es sub111 itted bids, and 8 \SS, In c. beat th e co mpetition b y $73 .00 per ton. Th e oth er company was ba se d in Califo rnia. Most of th e citi es in th e D enve r m etro area appl y either slurry sea ls or c h;~ seals to h elp pro long th e life of th ei r roa ds. Slurry sea l is a very thin applicati on product. Because of th e thin ap p li ca ti on (1/8 in ch thi ck or less), th e protec tion and be nefits of thi s trea tm ent are no t significa nt. Chip sea ls rely on th e roc k or agg regat e to p rovide tra cti on and protec ti on benefits. H oweve r, chip sea ls are du stier; when cars dri ve too fas t imme di ately after the chip is applied , cracke d windshi elds can occur; th e str ee ts are nosie r; and, w hen kids fa ll off th eir bikes, th eir sc rapt!s are wo rse . Citi ze n complaints are typi ca l wi th chip sealing . Expe rience w ith appl yin g our prod uct is crucial to a successfu l proj ec t. We prefe r using th e on ly co ntrac tor tha t has rep eated ly demonstrated successful app li ca ti ons utilizing th e pro ducts and m ix desig ns 1ha 1 we ha ve deve lop ed, and has consis 1entl 1• ac hi eve d th e des ired res ults. We are sa ti sfi ed with pr orlu ct perfo rman ce to date and are par tic ularl y pi 1:.:1s ed wi :h perfor man ce on our loca l serv ice str ee ts . FINANCIAL IMPACT W e ex pect th at b ids fo r standard slurry in th e metr o area, usi ng local crn itractors and lower quality com ponents th an o ur sp eci fi ca ti o ns, should ran ge fr o m S 1.20 to $1.65 ,:,er sq uare ya rd in 2002.
