HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994 Resolution No. 089• • • RESOLUTION NO. a SERIES OF 1994 A RESOLUTION APPROVING HF.Al.TH AND DENTAL INSURANCE COSTS FOR POLICE, FIRE, GENERAL SERVICES, CONFIDENTIAL, A.VO PART-TIME BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD FOR THE YEAR 1995. WHEREAS, under the Compensation and Benefits Plan for these employees, the Englewood City Council desires t,, establish the insurance rates for the year 1995 ; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVZD BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO, THAT : &dism..l. For all full -ti me employees of the City of Englewood the Ci ty will pay 85% per month of the premium cost for dependent and single coverage . Employees will pay 15% of the monthly premium cost for single and dependent coverage. The costs t,, be paid by said employees for health and dental insurance cov erage shall be as follow s : City Self-Funded -Medical · $28 .39/month for sinsle co ve rage. $84 .07/month for family cove rage. The se incr~ases are bei ng im ple mented in order to ensu re full funding of the level of health and dental care b,,ne fit s provided to the Ci ty's empl oyees. The cos t of medical and dental care provided through the self-insured prog ran1 s has increased at ave rage armual rate s of approximatel y 15% and 10% per empl oyee, re spec tively . This ove rall experience is be low th e industry norms as a res ult of effons to control costs through emphasi s on programs such as empl oyee welln ess , which included the implementation of an emplo yee assistance program as of No vember I , 1994 . In addition , program s directed toward mi "i1,1izing admi nistrative- type co sts, produced sav in gs of approx im atel y $75 ,000 in 1994 . In spite of con tinued inflationo.rv cost pressures and cost impacts resulting from the demographic characteristics of our workfare . the !eve of health and dental care benefits provided to City employees bas been mainrainc.:I . • FINANCIAL IMPACT Fu.nds for these rates were appropriated bye.sch department in the 1995 budget. The rates are necessary in order to achieve the established City/employee cost sharin g relationship for these benefit programs . •
