COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
Resolution Bulletin Board
Rick DeWitt , City Attorney
January 12 . 1993
This particular resolution is in direct respons.:, to Senate Bill No . 91-33. In said Bill
there is a requirement that 'in addition to any other means of lull and timely notice a
local body shall be deemed to have given full and timely notice ii the notice of the
meeting is posted in a designated public place within the boundaries of the local public
body no less than 24 hours prior to the holding of the meeting. The public place or
places for posting such notice shall be designated annually at the local body 's first ,egu)ar
meeting of each calendar year.• '
In re viewing the Act ii does not make posting ma ndatory . Although not directly
requiring the posting ,he Statute offers as satisfactory compliance with notice posting . The
Bill intends to expand public access to government information posting is a way to
ar.hieve this laudable goal.
As a r"!commendation this Offic e is offering the Bu lletin Board locat ed in the
Englewood City Ha ll Lobby for this purpose . Certainly other posting places are allowed
and can be designated as Council determines is the appropriate public policy of the City
of Engl ewoo d .
This matter will come up again in January of 1994, and we will cycle this on a regular
basis as required by State Statute for the fu "!:t meeting of each calendar year .
FINANCIAL
Clearly there is a n additional cost in maintaining a posting site, it is unclear as to the
tv ,'~I cost of th is effort ; however , in terms of dollar amoun ts it is inconseq uen!tal in
comparison to the overall City Budget.
