HomeMy WebLinkAbout1979 Resolution No. 010• • • • • RESOLUTION NO. 10 , SERIES OF 1979 ~ A RBSOLUTIOll 'l'O SUBMIT 'l'O A VOTE OF THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE CITY OP ENGLEWOOD A PROPOSAL 'l'O AMEND SECTIONS 22, 23, 54, 56, 59, AND 61 TO PROVIDE RESPECTIVELY THE FOLLOWING: TO REDUCE 'DIE AGE AHD USIDDCY UQUIRIMENT OF COUNCILMEN; TO REDUCE THE AGE AHD USIDDCY BEQUIREMERTS FOR THE MEMBERS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS; TO RDl>VE COUNCIL MEMBERS FBOM BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLOBADO, as follows: That the following proposed Charter amendments be submitted to a vote of the qualified electors at the general municipal election to be held on November 6, 1979, said question to be aubaitted by an ordinance adopted by the governing body pursuant to Section 31-2-210, C.R.S. '73, as amended. Section l • Section 22 of Article III of the City Charter of the City of Englewood, Colorado, shall be amended as follows: 22. TERMS Terms of Councilmen shall begin at 8:00 p.m., on tho first Monday after January 1, followinq the year elected. Seven Councilmen shall be elected at the regular City election to be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, 1959. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes from District 1 and the candidate receiving the highest number of votes from District 3 shall hold office for four years, and tho candidate receiving tho highest number of votes from District 2 and the candidate receiving the highest number of votes from District 4 shall hold office for two years. The two candidates at larye receiviny the highest number of votes shall serve for four years, and the candidate at large receiving the third highest number of votes •hall serve for two years. Thereafter, all candidates elected shall serve a term of four • Section 2. - year•, and a general municipal election shall be held at two-year intervals. Section 23 of Article III of the City Charter of the City of Englewood, ,COlorado, •hall be amended to read as follows: 23: Section J. QUALIFICATIONS OF COUNCILMEN No peraon shall be eligible for the off ice of Councilman unless at the time of his election he i• a citizen of the United States, at least ~•n~y-ti•e TWENTY-ORB year• of age, shall have been for ~~ee yea•• ONE YEAR immediately pre- ceding such election a qualified elector of the City. Councilmen elected by Districts shall also be residents and qualified electors of their districts. No elected City official shall hold any other elective public off ice nor shall he be a paid employee of the City or any other municipality. Section 54, Part I,of Article VIII of the City Charte~7 of the City of Englewood, Colorado, shall be amended to read au follow•: 54: Section 4. - PART I. Section 56, Part II, Article VIII, of the City Charter of the City of Bnglewoocl, Colorado, shall be amended to read as • follow•: -2- 56: PART II. CITY PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION COMMISSION ESTABLISHED The Council shall establish by ordinance a City Planning and zoning Commission consisting of nine . BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS 59: BOARD CREATED Council shall establish by ordinance a Board of Adjustment and Appeals, consisting of seven (7) members appointed by Council, for overlapping terms of four . (4) years.
