A POLICY OF NATURAL TYPE CHANNELIZATION OF THE SOUTH PLATTE
RIVER FROM CHATFIELD DAM TO HAMPDEN AVENUE.
WHERF.AS, the F.n~lewood electorate on Nov e mber 6,
1973 approved the redevelopment of the South Platte River
from Oxford to Hampden Avenue; and
WHEREAS, such proposed redevelopment includes the
construction of a river greenbelt and a nature trail system,
which seeks to utilize and preserve much of the existing
nnturnl habJtnt or the South Platte River Flood Plain; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Consultant for the Englewood
South Platte River Redevelopment has recommended natural type
channelization as the only course of action compatible with
proposed redevelopment; and
WHEREAS, the Littleton City Council and Planning
Commission have by resolution endorsed natural type channelization
as absolutely essential to their own South Platte River Park
Project , which deems it necessary that the City of Englewood
pursue an identical endorsement in view of joint city project
continuity a nd consistency .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO, as follows:
Section 1.
That the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers adopt a policy
of natural type channelization with regard to the South Platte
River Flood Plain.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 20th day of May, 1974.
