Cartwright, Esq. has recently a nnounced his r e signation from membership on the Board of /\d j u 11 l1111•11I .111d /\1•111·.il n 11 f 1111 • l~il y .. r P.11tj l o Wb b U , c c l c:.H·duo , L111U, WH EREAS , il i~ a p propr iate a t t his time to publicly acknowledge the long-time service which he has rendered to the City , NOW, THERF.FORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE C ITY OF ENGLEWOOD that said City Council does hereby publicly adop t the f ollowing st at e me nt of conunendation: Edward B. Cartwright, a respected and loved member of t h e Bar of the County of Arapahoe, State of Colorado, has recently comp leted n e arly twenty y e ars of voluntary service to the City of Englewood. The year 1940 was the year in which Edward B. Ca rtwright initially agreed to give of his talents and of his time to the City. In that year, he was a member of the Citizens Committee which drafted, and reconunended to Council, the provisions of the fi r st Bu ildinq Code adopted by the City. In the same year, he was also a me mb er of t h e Zo ning Cod e Conunittee which drafted, and reco mme nded to Council, the City's first Zoning Ordinance. Inunediately upon the adoption of the first Zoning Ordinance of the City, he took an active part in its implementation and administration by accepting appointment as one of the original memb e rs of t h e first Bo ard o f Adjustment and Appeals of the City, in whi c h capac i t y h e serv e d f or a period of two years. Again, in the year 1952, he accepted appointment to this Boa r d a n d h as s erv e d c ont i nuously from that time until February l of 1969 -a pe riod o f s e v e nteen years. This City Council recognizes that some of the most difficu lt d e cision s wh ich a r c made by any City agency are required t o b e ma de by th e memb e rs of the Board of Adjustment and Appeals of this City. To this Board, and to the City as a whole, Edward B. Cartwright has brought a high degree of honesty, integrity and forthrightness. He has gained the respect of the City as a whole a nd of all persons who have appeared before him. At the time of his resignation, this City Council, on b e half of the entire City of Englewood and all of its residents, des ires to say to Edward B. Cartwright that we appreciate the service which h e h a s r e ndered, we acknowledge the high respect in which he is held and we wish to him all good fortune in all of his future endeavors.
