HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971 Resolution No. 035RES OLllfION NO. 35, SERIES OF 1971 A RESOLlll'ION UR:iING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF COLORADO TO PASS LEGISLATION PROHIBITING THE SALE, USE, AND POSSESSION OF /\LL FIREWORKS, EXCEPI' FOR PROPERLY LICENSED AND ENFORCED PUBLIC DISPLAYS. WHEREAS, the Colorado State Fire Chiefs Association heartily supports the effort to ban the sale, use, and possession of all fireworks, except as provided in Art ic l e 13 of the Colorado State Constitution relating to public displays; and WllEREJ\S, n i n e t een othe r states have passed similar legislation deeming it necessary to do so in the interest of the public health and safety; and WHEREAS, numerous other organizations in the state have endorsed the proposal, including the Colorado Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, the Colorado Society for the Prevention of Blindness, the Colorado Humane Society, and numerous parrnt -tr~c h 0r assoc i at ion qroups a nd service clubs; and WHEREAS, fire alarms answered in the City of Englewood as a direct result of fi r e works have risen from seventeen in 1970 to fifty-three in 1971; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Englewood deems it necessary and advisable to strictly regulate the sale, use, and possession of all fireworks; NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that the City Council of the City of Englewood earnestly requests that the General Assembly adopt legislation which will prohibit the sale, use, and possession of all fireworks, except for public displays wh ich are properly licensed and enforced by the local enforcement body.
