WHEREAS, a flood problem of serious proportions PX i.sts j n the mat ropo 1 i t tln r<"rtC"h0~ of th0 R<"tl r Cr<"Pk v-~11,...,, , ctnLI Lhdl Llw uttccL::; 01 Hear Creek floods on the South Platte River through metropolitan Denver and the n.ural areas fownstream from Denver represent a serious flood threat to the South Platte River Val ley, and WHEREAS, current metropolitan growth trends and projected levels and patterns of future growth indicated substantial increases in future flood hazard and economic damage potentials, and WHEREAS, the existing flood threat is a serious deterrent to the economic stability and orderly growth of the metropolitan conununity and prevents fulfillment of plans to arrest deterioration and promote redevelopment of the South Platte River valley in metropoliatan Denver, and WHEREAS, the City of Englewood stands to lose considerable in the event of a flood arising from the Bear Creek Valley, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Englewood, Colorado, does hereby endorse and encourage the construction of the Mount Carbon Dam and Reservoir on Bear Creek, a tributary of the South Platte River in Colorado, for flood control, general rec- reation, and ifsh and· wildlife recreation generally in accordance with the plans of the District Engineer, and with such modifiacation thereof as in the descretion of the Chief of Engineers may be avisable.
