December 2, DATE: 1982
SUBJECT: Elec t ion on Commun i ty Center
Attached is an e lection schedule which is based on having an elec-
tion on March 1, 1983. I have talked with Stormy Rottman, Channel
9's most trustworthy weatherman, and he has assured me that March 1
will be a bright and sunny day.
In accordance wi th the City Charter, paragraph 14 (1), " ••• Council
may call special elections as necessary either by resolution or by
ordinance ••• ". The Charter does not address any time schedule for
passing this legislation. The State Statute, 31-10-501, states,
"(l) The Clerk, at least ten days before each municipal election,
shall give written or printed notice of the election ••• (2) In ad-
dition, the notice shall be published in at least one newspaper ••. "
In consideration of the above, Council will need to pass a resolu-
tion to call a special election by February 7, 1983. If an ordi-
nance is the desired legislation, the final reading must take place
on or before the January 3, 1983 Council meeting.
