principles that all people are created equal and that each person has the right to life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness; and
WHEREAS, all members of the Englewood community, including those who are
LGBTQ+ have the right to feel safe, not be discriminated against and to live without the threat of
harassment; and
WHEREAS, the City of Englewood is strengthened by and thrives upon the rich diversity
of all its residents; all of which contribute to the vibrant character of the community; and
WHEREAS, the City employs and serves many residents who are LGBTQ+ and who may
lack visibility and acceptance based on past and present discrimination; and
WHEREAS, the LGBTQ+ community has made strides in legal equality, but much work
remains in order to achieve inclusion, acceptance and full equality; and
WHEREAS for more than three decades, Pride Month has been recognized in Colorado
and the United States to commemorate the Stonewall Riots in 1969 and to affirm the dignity,
equality, and contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals; and
WHEREAS the City established the staff-based Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee
made up of 19 staff members from all departments and unanimously approved a recommendation
establishing June as Pride month in Englewood.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED THAT, I Othoniel Sierra, Mayor of the
City of Englewood, Colorado ("the City") and the City Council, hereby proclaim:
June as Pride Month in the City of Englewood, and encourage all residents to
consider the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals, and affirm the dignity and
worth of LGBTQ+ individuals.
