WHEREAS, on July 4, 1776, our Founding Fathers ratified the Declaration of Independence,
a historic document declaring that, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are
created equal, and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,
that among those are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness;" and
WHEREAS, this document laid a foundation for future prosperity and helped establish a
government based on individual liberties and the rule of law, which is society's sacred bond;
and
WHEREAS, each year on July 4th we celebrate the birth of our nation and the signing of the
Declaration of Independence, recognizing our great country as an enduring symbol of
freedom, equality, and opportunity for all, and
WHEREAS, the freedoms that were won at the birth of our nation are defended every day by
the dedicated men and women of this United States Armed Forces, past and present,
WHEREAS, it is the right and duty of Englewood citizens, as a free, sovereign and
independent people; to enjoy and defend their liberties and, through legal means, alter or
abolish their form of government in order to do so; and
WHEREAS, the people of Englewood had their liberties limited during the ongoing COVID
pandemic to in an effort to keep others healthy and live lives of prosperity and happiness,
WHEREAS, emergency powers such as those enacted throughout the COVID pandemic at
all levels of government, in the wrong hands, entail a real risk of abuse that can permanently
affect the freedom of citizens by limiting freedoms of speech, movement, and assembly, and
WHEREAS, since 1870, the 4th of July has been recognized as a federal holiday so that
Americans may celebrate our Nation's timeless truths and great freedoms that call to our
higher sense of patriotism and we continue to celebrate that spirit throughout the month of
July,
NOW, THEREFORE, I Linda Olson, Mayor of the City of Englewood, Colorado and the City
Council, hereby:
1. Proclaim July Liberty Month in Englewood in recognition of the founding of our great
Nation; and
2. Ask all residents of Englewood to take time to celebrate the freedoms enshrined in
our Nation’s founding on the 245th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of
Independence.
