HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-09-18 Constitution WeekWHEREAS, the founders of the United States of America decreed and established a Constitution for the United States of America, a four page document including seven articles signed by 39 men; WHEREAS, the Constitution is the oldest and shortest written Constitution of any major government in the world; WHEREAS, the Constitution was signed in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787; WHEREAS, the Constitution begins with the words "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America WHEREAS, September 17, 2023, marks the two hundred and thirty-sixth anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; WHEREAS, Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating September 17-23 as Constitution Week; WHEREAS, every anniversary of the Constitution provides an historic opportunity for all Americans to learn about and to reflect upon the rights and privileges of citizenship and its responsibilities; and NOW, THEREFOR, BE IT PROCLAIMED THAT, I Othoniel Sierra, Mayor of the City of Englewood, Colorado ("the City") and the City Council, hereby proclaim: The week of September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week in the City of Englewood and urge our citizens to reaffirm the ideals of the Framers of the Constitution by studying the Constitution and reflecting on the privilege of being an American which all of the rights and responsibilities that privilege involves.
