HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-09-18 National Hispanic Heritage MonthWHEREAS, National Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month celebrates the Hispanic and Latino community and highlights its countless achievements in business, industry, government, education, the sciences, arts, and faith; and WHEREAS, the observation began in 1968 as Hispanics Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson, and was enacted into federal law on August 17, 1988, calling upon all the people of the United States to observe this time with ceremonies, activities, and programs; and WHEREAS, September 15-October 15 is recognized as National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is a time to honor the ways Hispanics and Latinos contribute to our common goals, celebrate their diverse cultures, and to work towards a stronger, more inclusive, and more prosperous society for all; and WHEREAS, Hispanics have enhanced and shaped our national character with centuries -old traditions that reflect the multi -ethnic and multicultural customs of their communities, while adding their own distinct and dynamic perspectives to the story of our country; and WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino Americans represent a significant demographic of the City of Englewood, we honor the invaluable ways they contribute to our great city; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED THAT, I Othoniel Sierra, Mayor of the City of Englewood, Colorado ("the City") and the City Council, hereby proclaim: September 15-October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month in Englewood and encourage all residents to consider the contributions of Hispanic and Latino people to the past, present and future of Englewood.
