A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ENGLEWOOD ENVIRONMENTAL
FOUNDATION'S CHOICE OF CALCON CONSTRUCTORS AS THE GENERAL
CONTRACTOR FOR THE REMODEL OF THE ENGLEWOOD CMC CENTER.
WHEPEAS. the En11lewood Environmental Foundatitin wu formed to provide ,upport for
tho redo• olopment and enhancement of the City's commercial environment and i.o a oeparate
and diel.inct corporation ; and
WHEREAS. the City throush a Certificate of Participation (COP) ofl"erin~ baa caUNd
$9,300,000 , to be available for the remodel of tho Englewood Civic Center: and
WHEREAS, the Englewood City Council pa118ed Re10lution No. 74 , Seriea of 1999,
appropriating additional funda ($2 ,000,000) for the El!Riewood Civic Center project. making
the total funding at $11,300 ,000 available ; and
WHEREAS . the City Council of the City of Enclewood, Colorado eupporta the Enclewood
Environmental Foundation's choice of Calcon Conetructora as the general contractor for tho
CityCenter En~ .ewood remodel conatruction; and
WHEREAS, the construction contractor ohall begin demolition on July 26 , 1999;
NOW, 'l'HEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED BY TliE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO, THAT:

Englewood Environmental Foundation's choice of Calcon Constructors u tho pneral
contractor for tho remodel construction of the Englewood Civic Center for a gw,ranteeci
maximum price (GMP) of $9,633 ,533 , and an estimated total project budget of
$11.175,486 .
~-The Encl, wood City Council endorses the start of construction of CityCenter
Enclewood on July 26, 1999 .
ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 19th day of July, 1999.

COUNCIL GOAL AND PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
City Council authorized the creation of the Englewood Environmental Foundation as a non-profit
development corporation to provide support for the redevelopment and enhancement of the City's
commercial environment. City Council caused , through Certificates of Participation (COP), $9,304,995
to be available for the remodel of the tenner Foley's building . Council approved Resolution No . 74,
Series of 1999, appropriating additional funds in the amount of $2,000,000 .
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Stali recommends Council support, by resolution , of the Englewood Environmental Foundation's
selactlon of Calcon Constructors as the General Contractor for the remodel construction of the CMc
Center with the start of construction on or about July 26, 1999.
BACKGROUND , ANALYSIS, AND ALTERNATIVES li>ENTIFIED
On October 8, 1998, the Englewood Environmental Foundation selected Calcon Constructors from
among twenty-two (22) Interested contractors, to asslst the Foundation and David Owen Tryba
Architects with preconstruction activities . Calcon has assisted with building exploration, design, valuf,
engineering, and cost estimates .
Calcon solicited bids from multiple subcontractors and arrived at a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP)
for the remodel construction as designed by Tryba ArcMects .
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The GMP for this project is $9 ,363 ,042 . Council considered , at the study on July 12, 1999 ,various add
alternat~s for the project. The additional work totals $378 ,390 bringing the total construction cos; to
$9,741 ,432 . The GMP includes a contractors contingency of $250 ,000. Any funds not used from this
contractors contingency are returned to the Foundation .
The estimated total project cost is $11 ,175,486 . This cost includes des ign services, furniture , fixtures,
equipment, and an owners contingency of $317,000 .
As detailed in "Previous Council Action " above , ,he total available funding for the project Is
$11,304,995 .
