ALLIANCE FOR COMMERCE IN ENGLEWOOD -
January 10, 2002
I. CALL TO ORDER
The Alliance for Commerce in Englewood meeting was called to order at 11 :35 a.m. in the
City Council Conference Room of Englewood Civic Center. Doug Van Der Zwaag was
absent and Vice Chair Kathy Ashenfelter requested Jan Johnson facilitate the meeting in his
absence.

II. Approval OF Minutes

Ms. Johnson asked that the Minutes of December 13, 2001 be considered for approval.
Mr. Young moved;

THAT THE MINUTES OF DECEMBER 13 , 2001 BE APPROVED.
Motion carried .
Ill. Business Survey
Ms. Johnson stated the business survey would be sent out the first of February, and the
results would be distributed the first of May. Ms. Johnson stated National Research Center
(NCR), the company conducting the survey, would send out a card to the businesses
notifying them that the survey would be arriving soon . The survey will be sent out in hard
copy, but will also have a website address for those who wish to complete it online . An
identification number on the survey should prevent duplicates. The survey consists of
approximately 34 questions and is 5 pages. Each section provides space for comments,
and the comments will be verbatim on the report. The Chamber and City staff is working
on updating the business database. Mr. Taylor suggested the business surveys be marked
"Address Correction Requested."
Ill. Admissions Tax
The admissions tax issue was scheduled to be heard at City Council on January 8; however,
it was removed from the agenda for further discussion. The issue will be discussed at the
January 22 study session at 6:00 p.m ., and is scheduled for first reading on February 4. Mr.
Rees asked why the item was removed. Mayor Bradshaw responded that Councilman
Moore had additional questions .

ACE CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THE COMPROMISE POSITION FOR A
TEMPORARY REDUCTION FROM THE CURRENT 3% ADMISSIONS TAX TO 0%
FOR A TWO-YEAR PERIOD AND RECOMMENDS APPROVAL BY CITY COUNCIL.
Motion carried.
Ms. Brenengen stated she would be unable to attend the January 22 study session, but she
fully supports the motion.
IV. Business Forums
Ms. Johnson stated she received a few names for the business forums, and would .
appreciate receiving additional names in the next few days. ACE will host the forums,
which will be a 2-hour lunch format.
Mr. Taylor asked if the Alliance planned on using the logo his company created. Ms.
Johnson stated that once she receives approval for use of the City logo in that manner, the
Alliance would proceed.

v. Comprehensive Plan
Harold Stitt provided background on the current 1979 Comprehensive Plan and explained
the current process for updating the Plan.
VI. Other Business
Mr. Hollingsworth reviewed his memo to the Alliance regarding Building Code issues. Ms.
Johnson stated a meeting was scheduled for January 11 with the Chief Building Official, Fire
Marshall, and Community Development staff to discuss the permitting process and Building
Code. Ms. Johnson reminded the Alliance to provide her with "stories" they may have or
may have heard regarding Englewood's permitting process .
Ms. Brenengen stated the Chamber and Community Development were working on a kiosk
and would like input from the Alliance. She further stated the Olympic Torch would be
coming through Englewood on January 31 , and the Chamber and the City would like to see
as much business recognition and participation as possible. She asked the members to let
her know if they wished to have their business banner displayed.
Ms . Brenengen reiterated that the Chamber is updating the Englewood Business Directory,
and that Mr. Taylor had provided a list as well. Ms. Johnson stated the Fire Marshall also
has a list of Englewood businesses that can be used to cross-reference. The Chamber is
also compiling information for a new business welcome packet.
Ms. Brenengen stated approximately 3 blocks of downtown businesses have formed a
group called "Old Town Englewood" and wish to start marketing the group. They also wish
to ask City Council for make a proclamation recognizing Old Town Englewood.
VII. Adjournment
