I. CALL TO ORDER

The reg ular meeting of the A lli ance for Commerce in Englewood (AC E) was called to order
at 11 :37 a.m. in the City Council Conference Room of the Englewood Civic Center, Vice
Chair Knoth presiding.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
December 8, 2011
Vice Chair Knoth stated that the Minutes of D ece mber 8, 2011 were to be considered for
app ro va l. It was determined there was a quorum. Vice Chair Knoth asked if th e re were any
c hanges or adjustments to th e Minutes. There were none.
Weinberger moved:
Champion seconded: THE MINUTES OF DECEMBER 81 2011 BE APPROVED AS
WRITIEN.
Th e motion carried unanimously.
II. ACE BUSINESS

The g roup continued their discussion regarding the ACE Strategi c Plan.
Incentives for Housing/Schools
Discussion points included:
1. Improvement Fund /Housing Rehab (o nl y for low incom e?)
2 . Tear down rebates for developers .
3. Cut fees for housing builders/remodel

The timeline approved earlier by ACE for the ACE Strategic Pl a n was discussed.
Mr. Scha lk stated he did not want to wa it until summer to giv e City Council a
recommendation.
Schalk moved:
Champio n seconded: RECOMMEND ACE MAKE A PROPOSAL TO CITY COUNCIL
WITH REGARDS TO FILLING VACANT SPACES AND
INCENTIVIZING TEAR DOWNS.
The motion carried 4 to 1.

IV. COMMENTS
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Ms . Mello said the nex t After Hours event will be held n ex t Tuesday at Solid Grounds
coffee shop from 5 to 7. The Awards Gala wi ll be held in M arch and the C hambe r is
working on bringing th e car show back this summer.
She stated the Chamber would like to do a Farmer's Market thi s summer in co njun ct ion
with the Sounds of Summer.
The Chambe r is wo rking a business to put a program t ogether t o Shop Englewood.
Businesses wo uld promote in their stores. Mr. Jefferson noted City Co un c il has t alk ed about
a buy local campa i gn als o. At the last M ayor's m ee tin g a business owners asked about
obta inin g a list of bus in esses in several blocks and high li ght th em in th e Engl ewood Citizen
so the c iti ze ns know what business are located where in th e City.

Mr. Scha lk said th e BID had a me etin g ye st erda y and th ere is another meeting scheduled
for next Wednesday to elect officers .

STAFF COMMENTS

Mr. Hollingsworth sa i d City Council w ill review the app li cations for new members to th e
boards, comm issions and a uth oriti es late r this month. ACE wil l e l ect offi cers at the February
meeting.
CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS

Mr. Jefferson updated the group on City Counc il activ iti es:
1. Goal sett in g meeting on January 30t".
2. The King Soope rs redeve l opment at Be ll ev i ew and Federal asked for som e
incentives from the City. The C ity approved in the amount of app roximate ly
$500,000 over seve ral yea rs .
3. The peop l e who have the Martin Plastics property under contract approached
the City l ooking to do a Transit Oriented Development; residential with som e
comme rcial. They have n ot brought fo rth a proposal to date.
Mr. Scha lk stated the new Wa lm art is impressive. He said that is going to squeeze the Kin g
Soopers on Broadway pretty heavily. He asked if the Broadway locati on was on its way
with the new store openi n g at University a nd Hampden. Mr. Jefferson n oted that store is a
tota ll y different co n cept. Mr. Weinberger asked about the time lin e for Kent Place. Director
White sa id the plans have been turn ed in . They a r e h op in g t o open lat e this year.

Mr. Weinberger stated he d i d not think the ACE Strategic Plan was a bad exercise, but
a grees with Mr. Scha l k to move the top prior iti es forwa r d sooner rather than later.
Vice Cha ir Knoth stated he i s a little d i sappo inted the group voted to change the ACE
Strategic Plan strategy.
V. UPCOMING ACE BUSINESS
a. The next meeting is schedu l ed for February 9, 20 12 .
No further bus in ess was brought forth for consideration . The meeting was adjourned at
12:45 p.m .
