ALLIANCE FOR COMMERCE IN ENGLEWOOD COMMITTEE
City Council Conference Room
November 4, 2015
I. CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Alliance for Commerce in Englewood Committee (ACE ) was called to order at
11 :30 a.m. in the City Council Conference Room of the Englewood Civic Center , Vice Chair Michels
presiding.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
September 2 , 2015
Vice Chair Michels stated that the Minutes of September 2, 2015 , were to be cons idered for approval. It
was determined there was a quorum . Vice Chair Michels asked if there were any changes or adjustments
to the Minutes . There were none.
Goddard moved:
Knoth seconded : TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 2, 2015
The motion carried unanimously .

II. ACE BUSINESS
Discussion regarding the business survey was led by Vice Chair Michels. It was agreed that the survey
would be available for two months or until 200 responses are received. Once the survey results are
compiled , ACE will have direction as to how they can pursue their mission of attracting and retaining
businesses .
Various methods of distribution were discussed including e-mail , postcards and the Englewood Citizen
newsletter. Mr. Goddard suggested including a link on the monthly e-mail generated by the Finance
Department for the collect ion of sales ta xes. This service is provided by a third party ; Mr. Flaherty w ill
inquire about the viability of using this method . Staff will research if that is a possib ility . The City website
also has a survey function. Survey Monkey is also an option and access to the data would be maintained
by staff in Community Development.

2016 Business Summit
Ideas for the 2016 Business Summit were discussed; Councilman Jefferson suggested that a job fair may
be an option. Feedback from the previous events suggest that local issues and networking a re the most
• popular activities .

Mr. Penn commented that the majority of the attendees at the Summit have been from the South Metro
Chamber of Commerce and emphasized that the event needs to entice more Englewood bus inesses to
attend . He recommended Jeanna Poole , author of Marketing for Solos , as a potential speaker for the
event.

Mr. Knoth suggested that staff investigate what other cities have done with bus iness groups in their
communit ies. Ms. Ruiz and Mr . Knoth suggested that staff share the C ity of Westm inster newsletter.
Discussion about how to improve attendance by Englewood bus inesses continued .

No members of the public were present at the meeting.
IV. COMMENTS
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Mr. Penn stated that the Chamber will be generating an electronic newsletter in lieu of a paper copy .
STAFF COMMENTS
Mr . Hollingsworth d id not have any comments for the Committee.
CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS
Councilor Jefferson did not have any further comments for the Committee .
ACE COMMENTS
Ms . Ru iz reported that Swedish had a successful in September fo r fam ilies w ith chil d ren.
V. UPCOMING ACE BUSINESS
a. The next meeting is scheduled for December 2, 2015 .
No further business was brought forth for consideration . The meeting was adjourned at 1 :00 p.m .
