Call to order ALLIANCE FOR COMMERCE IN ENGLEWOOD February 3, 2016 The regular meeting for the Alliance for Commerce in Englewood was called to order at 11 :39 a .m . by Chair Whyte. Ii] 2. Roll Call Present: Absent: Knoth, Corral, Whyte, Michels (arrived 11 :45) Coonan, Goddard, Weinberger, Ruiz Also Present: Mayor Joe Jefferson Michael Flaherty, Interim Community Development Director Randy Penn , Englewood Chamber of Commerce Darren Hollingsworth, Economic Development Manager Gale Schrag, CenterPointe Senior Living 3 . Approval of Minutes Corral moved , Knoth seconded , to approve the minutes of the meeting of December 2, 2015 , as written . The motion carried unanimously. lj] 4 . Review of Business Survey The Committee discussed the preliminary results from the business survey . ftll 5. Community Marketing and Business Promotion The Committee discussed options for promoting the City of Englewood . Mayor Jefferson suggested that the Committee make a recommendation to City Council to pursue specific marketing activities . A committee was formed to explore options for marketing : Michels, Knoth, and Corral. e 6. Election of Officers Michels nominated Whyte for Chair; Knoth nominated Michels, the nominations were approved unanimously by the Committee. e 7 . Small Business Administration Program Chair Whyte discussed the Small Business Administration (SBA) Emerging Leaders program ; the SBA will be holding the program in the Community Room at Englewood Civic Center. Mr. Hollingsworth , Mayor Jefferson and Mr. Penn provided details on the free , 6 month program . The City is donating the space for the program and Englewood business owners will be encouraged to attend . The program is designed for existing businesses to help them take the next step in growing their organization . Participants will receive a plan that is specific to their business at the end of the program . It is the consensus of the Committee that this program would greatly benefit Englewood businesses . Mr. Whyte discussed the SBA Startup in a Day program. Corral moved, Michels seconded, to recommend to City Council that Englewood participate in the Startup in a Day Program . The Committee approved the motion unanimously. e 8 . Update on development projects • Mr. Hollingsworth provided an overview of the current status of development projects. Mr. Schrag described the project he will be working on in the near future , a senior living facility that will provide assisted living as well as memory care . Mr. Flaherty provided information regarding the Comprehensive Plan and the status of the a~roval process . 9 . Public Comments Gale Schrag of CenterPointe Senior Living outlined the project he is working on in Englewood . ~ 10 . Chamber of Commerce Mr. Penn shared information on upcoming events that will be sponsored by the Chamber. The Chamber will be partnering with the City for the Business Summit this year. ~ 11. Staff Comments Mr. Hollingsworth did not have any additional comments. ~ 12. Council Comments Mayor Jefferson welcomed any questions from the Committee regarding City Council actions . ~ 13 . Member's Choice Mr. Knoth informed the Committee that Porter Hospital is expanding . He shared information with the Committee regarding recent legislation in Kansas City that raises the legal age for tobacco purchases . • The meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m. The next meeting will be March 2, 2016. ~,/,, : ~cJ Recording Secretary •
