SIGN CODE AMENDMENTS
Ms. Langon reviewed a chart showing the sections of the sign code that the Commission
has discussed and made recommendations on. She also outlined the timeframe for future
sign code amendments study sessions, public outreach and City Council action .
She presented a slide show on Options for On-Site Accessory Signs showing the pros and
cons. Examples of proposed prohibited on-site accessory signs and advertising devices were
provided . She reminded the Commission these signs do not require a permit and are not
subject to variances. Discussion continued per zone district. Consensus was to move
forward with what was presented .
The Commission next discussed electronic message display signs. Ms. Langon said from
previous electronic message discussions concern was not how often th e sign changed but
how it changed . Ms. Langon noted she looked at a couple of very recent codes and also at
the U.S. Sign Council model code to assist in writing the draft amendments.
The last section discussed was Human Signs such as sign twirlers, sign spinners, etc. After a
short discussion the Commission asked to allow them with regulations in the draft and ask
for public comments.
