The reg ular m ee tin g of th e City Planning and Zoning Commission was ca lled to order at
7:0 2 p.m. in th e City Counci l Conference Room of the Englewood Civic Center, Chair
Knoth presiding.

Chair Knoth asked if there were any modifications or corrections. Mr. King noted a
cor rec tion on page 2.

Sign Code Amendments
Ms. Langon presented an overview of previous Council dir ec tiv es rega rding banners,
murals, n ew technolo gies , portable temporary signs, South Broadway sign area, signs in th e
p ubli c right-of-way and th e use of the "Street Graphic" mod el. She also rev iewed Sign
Regulation Principles.
The proposed outline of the Ordinance consists of the following sections:
> Administration
> Exempt Signs (not subject to Permit)
> Prohibited Signs and Prohibitions
> Stre et Graphic Concept
> Standards by District
> Standards for Specific Sign Typ es
> Sign Measurement
The disc us sion ce nte red on the first section of the outline, Administration. Nonconforming
sig n s we re also discussed.
Th e Commission reviewed prohibited signs. The consensus was to prohibit th e following:
> Strobes
> Billboards
> Any sign that imitates or resembles an official traffic control device o r signa l
> Third party signs
> Wheeled advertising devices
Co nclusion :
• The Commission reviewed the list of City Council directi ves a nd overall view of th e
ame ndm ents .
• The Commission went into detail discussin g the Administration sect ion.
• The Commission directed Staff to move forward on tho se areas determined t o be
wo rk areas .
• Th e Commission requested Ms . Langon bring back picture exa mpl es of different
t y p es of signs to future meetings .
• Th e Commission preferred the wording inactive signs rath e r than aba nd oned signs.
