YOUTH MEMBER DISCUSSION
[1lJ
Conse n sus was to requ es t City Council consider allowing a youth m embe r on the Planning
a nd Zo ning Commission. This discussion will continue at a futur e meeting after Chair Knoth
prepares a draft lette r outlining the reasons for a youth member.

Clarification was requested on the size of door stickers. Signs can be no more
than 1 square foot each.
Plannin g and Zoning has the opportunity to change the anti business rules
that have been a problem for businesses.
Creation of a liberal sign code would be a benefit to busin esses .
There are more empty storefronts south of Yale than north; the sign code is a
part of that problem.
Lik ed the Street Graphics concept presented at a past m eet in g .
Felt the Commission is trying to make things easier rather than hard er for th e
business com munity .
The proposed LED billboard at Broadway and Englewood Parkw ay was
mentioned.
Murals need to be removed from the sign code and hav e a different code
entirely.
The restrictions for iconic signs need to be lessened. A 42 in ch projection is
not e nough; awning can protrude much further.
City isn 't allowing much creativity for business owners; sign code is too
restrictiv e, needs to be more liberal.
Felt most people will not abuse the code, but a few may .
