CALL TO ORDER ~ The reg ul ar meeting of the C ity Planning and Zoni n g Commiss ion was ca ll ed to order at 7:03 p.m . in the Community Deve lopment Conference Room of the Eng lewood Civic Center, Vice Cha i r Knoth presiding. Present: Roth, Welker, Krieger, Knoth, Brick Absent: Fish, Calonder, Bleile, King, Ki nt on (a lternate) Staff: Tricia Langon, Senior Planner II . APPROVAL OF MINUTES January 5, 2010 We lker moved: Krieger seconded: TO APPROVE TH E JANUARY 5, 2010 M INUTES Vice Chair Knoth asked if there were any mod ifications or co rrections. There were none. AYES : NAYS: Roth, Welker, Krieger, Knoth , Brick None AB~TAIN: None ABSENT: Fish , Ca londer, Ble il e, King Motion carried. Ill. SIGN CODE AMENDMENTS ~ Ms. Langon reviewed slides of d ifferent types of signs that were presented at the last meeting and the proposed definition of "sign " that the Commission discussed . She said she is work i ng under the tact that everything is a sign and all signs wi ll either be: 1. Prohibited ; 2 . Exempt; or 3. She then presented a slide show of various types of signs ; she noted none of the photos were taken in the City of Englewood . Slides included : Public Signs Public Bus Benches and Shelters Warning Signs Election Signs On-site Rules and Regulations Open Signs Directional -Enter/Exit Informational -Address Informational -Decals and Hours Informational -Menu/Order Boards Informational -Miscellaneous Cafe Umbrellas Vending/Dispensing Collection Containers Crests and Memorials Logos Real Estate (Residential and Commercial ) Flags -Nation, State, City Flags -Corporate and Other Flags -Giant Vehicles -Mobile/"Signs " Vehicles -Consumer Information Vehicles -Trailers Vehicles -Mobile Billboards Window Display Other "Signs " Sign Twirlers Temporary -Banners Temporary -Wind Signs Temporary -A-Frame , etc. Temporary -Pennants Temporary -Inflatables Discussion ensued as to which of the three c ategories each of the signs could fall into. The Sign Code Amendments discussion will continue in March . IV. PUBLIC FORUM l?lJ There was no public present. V. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE l?lJ Director White was not present. VI. STAFF'S CHOICE l?lJ Ms. Langon updated the Commission on future meetings: February 2: Metro Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan , Harold Stitt Landscape Amendments, Brook Bell/Trica Langon February 17 (Wed ): Medical District Phase 11, John Voboril Landscape Amendments, Brook Bell/Tricia Langon March 2: Sign Code Amendments, Tricia Langon VII. A TIORNEY'S CHOICE l?lJ Ms. Reid was not present. VIII. COMMISSIONER'S CHOICE l?lJ Mr. Knoth commented on the enforcement of the temporary sign code regulations . Mr. Welker said there isn 't much the Planning and Zoning Commission can do other than try to establish things that are enforceable and that either go through some kind of a preliminary review for a permit to be issued for temporary signs, write limits on exempt signs and enforce the remainder. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 p .m .
