HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-05-02 EC MINUTES" ELECTION COMMISSION MEETING ,-May 2, 1967 The City of Englewood Election Commission met on May 2, 1967 at 12:00 noon at the Hackney House, Englewood Colorado. Members Present: Mrs. Dorothy Romer Mr. Stephen A. Lyon Also Present: Mr. Richard Murphy, Assistant City Attorney . Absent: Mr. Harry Fleenor A letter to the Election Commission discussing Section 20 of the City Charter which governs the boundaries of municipal election districts was briefly discussed. The substance of that letter is set forth below. "The following data are submitted for your information. Section 20. (City Charter) Districts -Council shall establish four Council Districts before May 1, 1959. Such districts shall be contiguous apd compact and have approximately the same number of registered voters, as determined by the number registered to vote at the preceding general municipal election. The variances in number of registered voters shall not be greater than fifte~n percent between the district with the highest number of registered voters and the district with the lowest number of registered voters. Every four years thereafter, ?ivisions, changes, and consolidations shall be made by the Council to carry out the intent of this Article. Hereafter, suqh re~ · districting shall be completed at least six months before the general municipal election at which it is to become effective. * * * Number of registered voters in each election district at the last regular municipal election held November 2, 1965. District No. 1 ................... 3,320 District No. 2 ................... 2,875 District No. 3 ................... 3,163 District No. 4 ................... 3,475 Total Registered Voters 12,83~ Computation of Variance Total registered voters Maximum variance allowed 12,833 x 15% District 4 ....................... 3,475 (Highest number registered voters) Less: District 2 ....................... 2,875 (Lowest number registered voters) 1,925 Actual variance 600 r Therefore, there will be no necessity to redistrict for the November 7, 1967 municipal election." The description of the boundary of Council District No. 4 was discussed. The boundary line of District No . 4 begins at th~ intersection at the westerly City limit line and West Tufts Avenue. It was pointed out that there are two locations at which this intersection may be located . It is, therefore, the recommendation of the Election Commission that the boundary of Council District No. 4 be defined as beginning from a point of intersection of West Tufts Avenue and the westerly City timit line in the vicinity of South Garden Street; and that it be clarified that Council District No. 4 includes all that area generally known as Centennial Acres which lies within the City limit line of the City of Englewood. ~~£~ STEPHEf.r:vON ~ .
