CITY OF ENGLEWOO~, COLO~DO
SEPTEMBER 20, 1968
The Election Commission of the City of Englewood, Arapahoe
county, Colorado, met at 12:05 P.M. at the Hackney House, Englewood,
Colorado .
Present were: Mr. William Hanson
Mr. Harry Fleenor
Mr. Stephen A. Lyon, Chairman
Mr . Lyon presented two petitions calling for initiative
ordinances to be placed on the November 5 ballot~ said ordinances
dealing with a) prohibiti on of one-way streets within the City of
Englewood and b) institution of left-hand turns at the intersection
of Bannock and Highway 70. Also presented was Resolution No. 39,
Series of 1968, calling for a special election on said orqinances.
After discussion the following actions were taken:
1. The Chairman of the Election Commission was authorized
and directed to convey the two initiative ordinances to the Arapahoe
County Clerk for placement on the November 5, 1968, General Election
Ballot.
2. Insofar as the Election Commission was aware that a
number of questions as to the validity of the init~ative petitions had
been raised, the Chairman of the Election Commission was authorized
and directed to obtain an opinion from the City Attorney as to whether
it is the duty of the Election Commission to proceed with the conduction
of an election per City Council's direction or whether the Election
Commission has the power and duty to clarify any questions of validity
relating to said petitions.
3 . The Chairman of the Election Commission was authorized
and directed to utilize those judges of election appointed by the
County Clerk without formal separate appointment by the Englewood
Election Commission.
