November 9, 1972
3:30 P.M.
The Election Commission of the City of Englewood, Arapahoe
County, Colorado met in a session on November 9, 1972 at 3:30 P.M.
Karl Nollenberger, presiding, called the meeting to order.
Commissioners present were Mr. Clyde Mitchell, Mrs. Mary Lou Newport,
and Karl Nollenberger, Director of Finance.
Karl Nollenberger began a discussion of the election which
had just been completed on the Tuesday before, stating that relatively
few problems had been run into as a result of the election.
While it had been reported to the Commission at a previous
Commission meeting that the City would be able to cooperate with the
County Clerk in the use of her election judges, it was a last minute
decision by the County Clerk's office to employ 28 additional judges
for the Englewood paper ballot. She did so from the ranks of the
Republican party without previous notice to the City Clerk.
A few infractions of not allowing voters to vote the paper
ballot in secret in the voting booth were reported by the roving
judges. In total, with the enormity of the turnout and the use of
the paper ballot for the three Englewood questions, it was noted that
the problems were relatively few and far between. Counting of the
ballots was completed by 11:00 P.M. on election night with complete
returns reported at that time.
The returns were discussed by the Commission members as
follows:
Amendment No. 4 For 5,824
Against 6,345
Amendment No. 5 For 6,945
Against 4,931
People's Ordinance
No. 1 For 8,021
Against 3,928
MR. MITCHELL ..MOVED AND MRS. NEWPORT SECONDED A MOTION TO
CERTIFY THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION AS RECORDED ABOVE TO THE SECRETARY
OF STATE'S OFFICE. Upon the call of the roll, the vote resulted as
follows:

Ayes: Commission members Mitchell, Newport, Nollenberger.
